Certified Surgical Technologist - Ophthalmology ASC Job Overview Mineral Surgery Center is seeking a dependable, motivated, and skilled Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) to join our surgical team. We are an adult ambulatory surgery center specializing exclusively in ophthalmic surgery , providing a focused surgical environment with an emphasis on patient safety, efficiency, teamwork, and exceptional patient care. Our surgical specialties include cataract, cornea, glaucoma, oculoplastics, strabismus, and other ophthalmic procedures . The Surgical Technologist will work closely with our surgeons, nursing staff, anesthesia providers, and other members of the surgical team to ensure each procedure is performed safely and efficiently. The ideal candidate is organized, detail-oriented, adaptable, and able to anticipate the needs of the surgeon while maintaining a consistently sterile and well-prepared operating room. This position will also be cross-trained in Sterile Processing (SPD) and will be expected to assist with or provide coverage in SPD as needed. Key Responsibilities Prepare the operating room for ophthalmic surgical procedures, including appropriate instrumentation, equipment, supplies, medications, and surgical materials. Establish and maintain the sterile field in accordance with infection prevention and aseptic technique standards. Assist surgeons throughout procedures by anticipating surgical needs and efficiently passing instruments, supplies, sutures, and other materials. Become proficient in the instrumentation, equipment, supplies, and surgeon preferences associated with a variety of ophthalmic procedures. Perform surgical counts and other required safety checks in accordance with facility policies and regulatory standards. Assist with room turnover to support efficient patient flow and on-time surgical schedules. Inspect instruments and equipment for proper function and promptly communicate concerns to the appropriate team member. Maintain proper handling, organization, and care of delicate ophthalmic instruments and equipment. Collaborate with nursing, anesthesia, surgeons, and other team members to maintain a safe, professional, and efficient surgical environment. Follow all infection prevention, patient safety, regulatory, and facility policies and procedures. Maintain accurate documentation as required within the scope of the Surgical Technologist role. Sterile Processing Responsibilities The Surgical Technologist will be cross-trained in Sterile Processing and expected to assist or provide coverage in SPD when needed.

Responsibilities may include:

Decontamination, cleaning, inspection, assembly, packaging, sterilization, and storage of surgical instruments. Proper handling and processing of delicate ophthalmic instrumentation. Preparation of instrument trays and surgical supplies for upcoming procedures. Monitoring sterilization processes and completing required documentation. Maintaining appropriate infection prevention and quality-control standards within the sterile processing area. Assisting with instrument inventory and identifying damaged, missing, or improperly functioning instrumentation. Supporting efficient workflow between the operating rooms and SPD. Qualifications Completion of an accredited Surgical Technologist program. Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) certification required. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required. Previous experience as a Surgical Technologist in an operating room or ambulatory surgery center is required. Ophthalmology experience is preferred but not required. Candidates with strong surgical technology experience and a willingness to learn ophthalmic procedures are encouraged to apply. Knowledge of sterile technique, infection prevention practices, surgical instrumentation, and operating room safety standards. Ability to learn and safely handle specialized and delicate ophthalmic instrumentation. Willingness and ability to cross-train in Sterile Processing and provide SPD support as needed. Strong attention to detail and organizational skills. Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced surgical environment while maintaining accuracy and patient safety.
