Surgical Technology Full Job Description Position Summary:
Demonstrates through clinical practice a clear understanding of sterile techniques and has a working knowledge of the specialized instrumentation and equipment required for a variety of specialty procedures. Demonstrates competency to operate all specialty instruments, supplies, and equipment to at least one tertiary specialty service. Performs patient care under the direction of the physician and supervision of the lead nurse in an ambulatory care setting.

Responsibilities:
Responsible for the maintenance of an orderly surgical field and for consistently passing instruments and supplies quickly and efficiently to the surgeon. Able to anticipate and prioritize the needs of the various steps associated with the procedure. Takes part in sponge, needle and instruments counts as dictated by the procedure. Responsible for maintaining the surgical specimen in a manner which identifies and preserves them for pathology evaluation. Assists in ordering and stocking of specialty supplies under the direction of management staff and departmental guidelines In collaboration with a Registered Nurse, serves as a technical subject matter expert for at least one tertiary specialty. Provides scrub services for major procedures in cardiovascular and thoracic (independently with high physician satisfaction). Prepares and conducts technical performance oriented training related to specialty service. Serves as a preceptor to perioperative personnel rotating through the scrub roles associated with their specialty(s) and /or second circulates on major tertiary procedures. Collaborates with surgeons and proactively addresses case needs when performing duties in either the scrub or second circulator roles. In collaboration with the clinical leadership, assists in work flow process improvement activities, contributes to organizational effectiveness, and demonstrates career growth and development.
Qualifications:
Education/Training High school graduate or equivalent; and Successful completion of: Surgical Technology training program; or Orlando Health training program; or U.S. Military Medical Core Training Licensure/Certification Maintains current BLS/HealthCare Provider certification. Experience Four (4) years ofsurgical tech experience are required. CST certification or Tech in Surgery certification (issued by the NCCT) and two (2) years of surgical tech experience may substitute for the four (4) years of required experience.
