Job Description
We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled CVOR Surgical Technologist to join our surgical team. In this critical role, you will support cardiovascular and thoracic surgical procedures by preparing operating rooms, maintaining sterile fields, managing surgical instruments, and assisting surgeons during complex cases. The ideal candidate will have strong CVOR experience , including cardiac, vascular, and heart transplant procedures (transplant experience required, not procurement only) . This position offers the opportunity to work in a high-acuity teaching hospital environment while collaborating with surgeons, nurses, anesthesia providers, and multidisciplinary teams to deliver safe and effective patient care. Your expertise in cardiovascular surgical technology, aseptic technique, and advanced surgical equipment will directly contribute to successful patient outcomes. Responsibilities Prepare and maintain sterile operating rooms for cardiovascular, thoracic, vascular, and transplant procedures. Set up surgical instruments, supplies, implants, and specialized equipment according to procedure requirements. Assist surgeons during complex CVOR procedures, including cardiac, vascular, and heart transplant surgeries. Scrub and pass instruments, sutures, and supplies while anticipating surgeon needs during procedures. Maintain strict adherence to aseptic technique, infection prevention standards, and surgical safety protocols. Perform surgical counts of instruments, needles, and supplies before, during, and after procedures. Operate and assist with specialized surgical equipment including cell saver, electrosurgical units, fiber optic equipment, and other CVOR technology. Handle, label, and transport surgical specimens according to hospital policies. Assist with room turnover, cleaning, and preparation for upcoming surgical cases. Support emergency cardiac procedures and participate in required on-call coverage. Float to other operating room specialties as needed based on facility requirements. Collaborate with surgeons, registered nurses, anesthesia teams, and other healthcare professionals to ensure efficient surgical care. Maintain knowledge of cardiovascular anatomy, surgical procedures, instrumentation, and advanced OR practices. Required Skills & Qualifications Proven experience as a Surgical Technologist in a Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR) setting. Strong experience with cardiac surgery, vascular procedures, and heart transplant cases .
