Summary of Responsibilities:
Under the immediate supervision of the staff registered nurse, is responsible for the safety of the patient who came under his or her care. The surgical suite technologist is responsible for ensuring effective communications between him/herself, the circulating nurse, the patient, other staff and physicians. Essential Job Functions- Check rooms, materials and equipment for proper care and handling, as outlined in departmental/company policies and procedures.
- Ensures clean, safe environment through continued alertness to safety and explosive hazards, and aseptic to techniques, as outlined by departmental/company policies and procedures.
- Coordinates inventory with Nurse Manager to maintain high standards and quality in the materials used.
- Assists in control of traffic and personnel to ensure proper control of infection and asepsis.
- Performs scrub duties as necessary.
- Maintains counts of sponges, needles, and instruments to ensure no loss of items according to departmental/company policies and procedures.
- Assist circulating nurse as necessary.
- Maintain physician preference cards
- Care for specimens and cultures on sterile field, handing off to circulating nurse as soon as possible to ensure appropriate preservation.
- Check and maintain logs (generator, autoclave, temp, humidity, etc.)
- Performs all other duties as assigned.

- Ability to organize and prioritize time Minimum Education Requirements
- Graduate of an approved school of Surgical Technology or equivalent training program.
- Current CST Certification required
- CPR Certification Minimum Background Requirements
- Minimum of one (1) year experience in ophthalmology preferred.
- Membership and participation in professional organization preferred.
