Surgical Technologist Extern The Surgical Technologist Extern provides surgical care assistance in the application of sterile and aseptic technique under the supervision of the Certified Surgical Technologist and/or Registered Nurse. Combines knowledge of human anatomy, surgical procedures, and implementation of tools and technologies to assist physician s performance of invasive procedures.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Prepares for and performs appropriate age-specific surgical care to patient population served. Provides appropriate intraoperative surgical care based on the patient s age and planned surgical procedure. Adheres to the principles of aseptic practice. Performs sponge, sharps, and instrument counts according to written policy. Cares for surgical specimens and cultures. Provides a safe environment for the surgical patient. Observes environmental infection control practices. Uses resources and equipment for patient care efficiently. Performs action that demonstrates accountability.

Education:

Enrolled in accredited Surgical Technologist program, actively pursuing diploma and/or certification required.

Experience:

None Licensure/Certification:

Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
