Job Description
Summary Scrubs in and assists in the OR suite. Obtains all supplies/equipment for specific surgical procedures, sets up and maintains the sterile field. Job Duties The essential functions of this job are identified with an asterisk (
- ) at the end of the bullet point. Cares for all patients who enter the OR suite.
- Acts in the role of a scrub nurse.
- Maintains certifications in all areas within scope of practice (if applicable).
- Orients new scrub personnel as needed.
- Sets up a sterile table with instruments, supplies, equipment and medications/solutions needed for procedure.
- Performs appropriate counts with circulator prior to the operation and before the incision is closed.
- Gowns and gloves, surgeons and assistants.
- Helps in draping sterile fields.
- Passes instruments to surgeon during procedure appropriately.
- Prepares sterile dressings.
- Assists in patient transfer to cart at the end of procedure.
- Returns soiled instruments to decontamination room for terminal sterilization.
- Assists team with cleaning of room.
- Assists in the prepping room for the next patient.
- Performs responsibilities within the scope of governing organizations and MLHS policies.
- Utilize assessments, planning, intervention, and evaluation processes.
- Actively works to reduce errors.
- Actively asks questions when need arises.
- Sets and meets individual/professional goals.
- Performs with minimal supervision.
- Exercises good judgment.
