Job Description

The OR technician is held accountable to the OR Patient Care Coordinator (PCC) and the Department Director. The ORT demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served; demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development; possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status; interprets the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age specific needs; and to provide the care needed as described in the department's policies and procedures. The ORT demonstrates the aptitude to properly prepare the operating room for surgery based on scheduled and/or anticipated procedure. This position requires "Call" and you must be able to return to the hospital within 30 minutes if called out.
Performance Expectations:
Performance expectations will be covered in the orientation and preceptor phases of your orientation to your job. Embraces and practices We C.A.R.E philosophy in all aspects of patient care, visitor, coworkers and staff relations. Demonstrates technical aptitude for dealing with and troubleshooting multiple pieces of unit equipment including but not limited to electro cautery, suctions, surgical lights, scopes and surgical tables. Demonstrates the aptitude for safely positioning patients using OR table straps, stirrups. Demonstrates the ability to safely scrub, gown and glove, and maintain sterile field. Demonstrates the ability to anticipate the needs of the patient and surgeon in a complicated procedure. Functions within the sterile field by passing the instruments or assisting the surgeon. Assists with the after care of equipment and supplies. Performs specific functions in processing, sterilizing, and issuing supplies used in patient care by surgery and other departments. Accountable to the Central Sterile Coordinator and the Director of Surgical Services. Demonstrates knowledge and skills to appropriately document the sterilization process from the mechanical parameters for the equipment used to achieve this process Must be able to communicate and interact with peers and co-workers, surgeons, and company representatives. Demonstrates the ability to function in endoscopic procedures with proper handling of the endoscopy scopes. Demonstrates proper procedure for processing endoscopy scopes following professional and regulatory recommendations while maintaining the integrity of the equipment. Recognizes when assistance is needed in lengthy and/or difficult procedures and performs as a team member of the surgical tech staff. Any other assigned duties, as needed. Behaviors and interactions demonstrate a positive attitude, personal initiative, and motivation to achieve the department's goals. Champions the development and growth of safety culture. Participates in all competencies planned for the job role before deadlines. Complies with the departmental and facility policy. Follows the policies in the Employee Handbook. Uses "We Care" philosophy in daily communication Required appropriate use of the department's communication app. The spreading of rumors and gossip creates unnecessary turmoil, weakens working relationships, and is contrary to the spirit of the hospital and is prohibited. Qualifications:
Education/Skills Graduate from a recognized
Surgical Technology Program Work Experience:
Completion of approved operating room technologist course. Certification/Licensure-DUE

Certified Surgical Technologist-Preferred Additional Certification/Licensure - obtained based on the required timeframe below Basic Life Support Within 30
