A Surgical Technician or Technologist assists with surgical operations. Prepares the operating room and equipment before a procedure, and helps surgeons and nurses during the procedure. Works in hospitals or other healthcare facilities.
At Stony Brook Eastern Long Island Hospital, a Surgical Technician is a valuable member of our team, who provides clinical services to our patient population; who will assist with the preoperative preparation of the patient for assigned surgical procedures including prepping and positioning the patient. JOB DESCRIPTION
Cares for the surgical patient in an ambulatory surgical operating room setting. Assembles equipment, supplies, sutures, and instruments for each assigned surgical procedure. Scrubs on the basic level procedures for all speciality services and on complex surigcal procedure ensuring maintenance of the surgical field. Assists in cleaning, restocking, and reconfiguring the operating room between procedures and at the completion of the schedules. Tests operational efficiency of equipment and reports problems to the Clinician or nurse manager. Assists in restocking storage and equipment supply areas. Attends in-service programs. Involved in recommendations to improve job performance and enhance patient care. Assists with Central Sterile Processing. Assists in preparation of equipment for special procedures. Reports/documents appropriate patient care information.
QUALIFICATIONS
High school Diploma Completion of an accredited Surgical Technology Program with current certification. Previous experience preferred 1 year minimum. Maintenance of annual requirements set forth by hospital policy, including policy, including but not limited to: BLS, Fire and Safety, Infection Control, Body Mechanics, Patient Rights/ Confidentiality. Meets the minimum physical ability standards as set forth by requirements.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Must be able to lift or assist in lifting client from bed/stretcher to operating table and vice versa. Must be able to respond quickly in an emergent situation. Must be able to communicate orally in an emergent situation. Must be able to use stairs in an emergent situation. Must be able to walk, carry semi heavy equipment up to 25 pounds and reach overhead. Must be able to communicate orally and in writing with clients or associates. b>
