Surgical Technologist Position Summary The Surgical Technologist is a key member of the surgical team , responsible for assisting in the operating room, maintaining sterile technique, managing surgical instruments and supplies, and ensuring a clean and organized environment before, during, and after procedures . This role requires technical expertise, attention to detail, and a heart for patient care , aligning with our mission to serve patients with compassion and excellence . Primary Responsibilities 1. Surgical Support & OR Preparation Arrive punctually to prepare the OR before cases, ensuring all necessary instruments and supplies are sterile, organized, and readily available . Maintain a sterile field and ensure adherence to infection control standards throughout surgical procedures. Assist Dr. Franks by anticipating instrument and supply needs during surgery. Set up and maintain the surgical table according to Dr. Franks' preferences . Properly handle, pass, and manage surgical instruments throughout procedures. 2. Sterilization & Equipment Management Operate and maintain the autoclave , ensuring proper sterilization of all instruments. Ensure all surgical tools and equipment are cleaned, sterilized, and stored properly. Monitor sterilization logs to maintain compliance with infection control protocols . Confirm supplies and equipment availability , proactively communicating ordering needs to the RN Inventory Manager with adequate time for ordering and receiving . 3. Post-Operative Responsibilities & OR Maintenance Properly clean and disinfect the OR after each case, following strict sterilization and OSHA guidelines. Dispose of medical waste, sharps, and biohazard materials according to regulations. Remove trash and unused supplies at the end of each case. Ensure the OR is fully stocked and organized for the next surgery. Maintain stewardship of weekly linen allocation , ensuring linens are properly used and restocked. 4. Inventory & Supply Management Regularly monitor and replenish OR inventory to avoid supply shortages. Communicate low inventory levels to the RN who oversees the inventory orders with adequate notice . Ensure unused items are returned to proper storage areas after each case. 5. Administrative & Compliance Duties Reconcile surgical instruments post-procedure, ensuring no missing tools . Document sterilization logs and equipment maintenance to meet compliance standards. Follow all OSHA, HIPAA, and infection control protocols. Qualifications Education & Licensure Completion of an accredited Surgical Technologist program . Surgical Technologist Certification (CST) preferred but not required. Experience 2+ years of experience as a Surgical Technologist, preferably in plastic surgery, outpatient surgery, or a hospital OR setting . Skills & Attributes Strong knowledge of sterile technique and infection control . Ability to anticipate the surgeon's needs during procedures. Strong attention to detail, organization, and problem-solving skills . Excellent time management and communication skills . Team-oriented with a positive, patient-first attitude . Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 30+ lbs . Compensation & Benefits Competitive hourly pay based on experience.
