They also prepare patients for surgery, arrange medical equipment, and assist doctors during surgical procedures. Qualifications Certified Surgical Technologist High School Diploma or G.E.D. CNA or LPN preferred One year of work in the medical field preferred.
Principle Duties and Responsibilities:
Prepares and issues central sterile supplies and equipment used in OR and other departments requiring sterile supplies. Received, breaks down, sorts, inventories, cleans, and examines surgical instruments for proper serviceability. Properly prepares instruments for sterilization using sterilization principles Assembles and wraps surgical instruments and other supplies and equipment for sterilization Loads and operates sterilization equipment using best practice policy and procedures Cleans and disinfects all equipment according to department procedures Conducts tests pertinent to CS such as spore tests and Bowie Dick Tests Follows collection, processing, and distribution procedures according to policy (rounds) Orders necessary supplies for the department weekly Performs preventative maintenance procedures on rental equipment according to department procedures Utilizes personal protective barriers and equipment; performs universal precautions Performs other duties as assigned

Ability to develop good working relations with other employees of the hospital Strong verbal and written communication skills Ability to have a high degree of tact, discretion, accuracy and confidentiality in dealing within the clinic as well as the community Knowledge of medical practices, administrative processes, and organizational policies including medical standards, regulations, equipment and safety. Ability to modify communication style and explanations of procedures consistent with patient's ability to understand, hear, and their desire for information.
