To provide specialized advanced technical skills in all technical aspects of the telemetry monitoring system.REQUIRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or equivalent. Successful completion of EMT - Paramedic program or graduation from related allied health sciences program or one (1) year related experience. Passing score of 80% or higher of UTMB's arrhythmia test.ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Operates and troubleshoots all functions of the telemetry monitoring system: o Admits, transfers, and discharges patient and enters all required information in telemetry monitoring system. o Adjusts alarms. o Reviews trends and alarms. o Cleans and maintains telemetry monitors/holders and accounts for monitor upon patient discharge. o Accounts for all monitors at the end of each assigned shift. o Orders monitoring supplies. o Obtains and documents rhythm strips per unit/department standards o Maintains log book on all monitored patients.- Provides precise continual surveillance and analysis of cardiac rhythms on electrocardiographic
Central Station:
o Interprets EKG rhythms. o Recognizes significant EKG events. o Communicates information to the responsible individual within an appropriate time frame. o Immediately reports significant or life threatening changes to a RN.- Participates in orienting and teaching of nursing staff, physicians and students as related to monitoring equipment.
- Assists with maintenance of unit equipment. o Performs daily quality checks of freestanding cardio-defibrillators.
- Maintains a safe environment: o Ensures that equipment has current electrical and maintenance inspections. o Reports all malfunctioning equipment.
- Provides age appropriate interaction and care as indicated.
- Uses aseptic techniques and infection control measures in performance of duties.
- Recognizes patient care priorities, treatment plans, objectives, and potential crisis.
- Respects and supports patient / family rights.
- Practices positive guest and peer relations.
- Participates in and supports quality improvement activities.
- Demonstrates acceptable productivity and practices cost containment.
- Functions as an interdependent and supportive team member.
