Summary of Job Duties:

The General Diagnostic Medical Sonographer is responsible for performing quality ultrasound images for medical interpretation within the UAMS Health Benton/Bryant location. The sonographer will perform a wide variety of ultrasound studies in collaboration with the ordering provider and reading Radiologists requests.

This position requires rotational after hour/weekend and holiday call coverage. The sonographer will work closely with Radiologists to provide needed information to make an accurate diagnosis. The Sonographer will assist physicians in such procedures as renal biopsies, sonohysterograms and Lumason enhancement studies.

Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:

High School Diploma/GED.

Graduate from an accredited Diagnostic Medical Sonography program.

Registered with the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) or registry eligible.

First Advanced Certification by the ARDMS must be obtained within 12 months from date of hire.

Second Advanced Certification by the ARDMS must be obtained within 24 months from date of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree

One (1) or more years of experience working as a sonographer

Advanced Certification by the ARDMS

Responsibilities:

Performs quality ultrasound imaging including Abdomen, Abdomen Doppler, Elastography, Renal, Pelvic (transabdominal and transvaginal), Neonatal (head, abdomen and spine), Ist, 2nd and 3rd Trimester Inhouse ob, Scrotal and Thyroid ultrasounds.

Assists in procedures including biopsies, sonohysterograms and Lumason enhancement studies.

Obtains, reviews, and integrates pertinent patient history and supporting clinical data to facilitate optimal diagnostic results.

Explains procedures while being compassionate towards patients.

Performs advanced tests with portable equipment in patients' rooms when necessary.

Maintains sonographic and other equipment in efficient operating order; assists with preventative maintenance on a regularly scheduled basis.

Participates in various teaching and/or learning opportunities to further his/her own personal knowledge and to assist in expanding the knowledge of others.

Performs additional manager or supervisor assigned duties.

Other duties may be assigned to this position.
