Western Suffolk BOCES anticipates an opening for an Echo Sonography Instructor in our Career and Technical Education Division. This is a part-time, hourly position. Western Suffolk County location. The didactic instructor shall be responsible for teaching the assigned subject to Diagnostic Medical Sonography students (didactic and/or laboratory), as directed by the Program Director, and shall report directly to the Program Director. The instructor creates an environment that fosters both the professional and personal growth of the students. The role is to facilitate a learning process that prepares each student to become a qualified and competent Sonographer, in alignment with the philosophy and objectives of the Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program.

Qualifications Education:

Graduate of a CAAHEP-accredited Diagnostic Medical Sonography or Cardiovascular Technology (Cardiac Sonography) program.

Certification/Licensure:

Must possess current national certification appropriate to the assigned instructional area through ARDMS, ARRT, or CCI. For Echocardiography instruction, required credentials include RDCS or RCS (or equivalent nationally recognized echocardiography certification).

Experience:

Previous experience as a registered diagnostic medical sonographer or cardiac sonographer is preferred. Teaching and clinical instruction experience is preferred. Responsibilities Carries out theoretical and/or clinical laboratory instructions in an assigned area including: identifying course objectives, developing course outlines, preparing lesson plans and completing evaluation tools. Selects appropriate audiovisual aids and other learning aids; arranges for guest lectures, tours, and observations; conducts appropriate research, i.e.: current literature, community service. Maintains accurate daily attendance records. Submits an academic/clinical progress report to program director upon request. Provides a tutorial session for students prior to remediation. Submits final course grades to the Program Director upon course completion. Completes lesson plans as directed. Establishes and maintains an atmosphere conducive to learning. Facilitates learning through the use of a wide variety of teaching methods including lecture, scanning lab. computer learning resource materials, and demonstrations. Provides necessary and supplementary information and experiences Adapts materials to the level of the learner. Maintains personal attitude and appearance in a professional manner. Maintains pertinent student records. Conferences students as needed regarding academic progress. Participates in departmental faculty and advisory committee meetings. Refers students to the Program Director when academic/clinical progress is at risk. Acts as a representative of the school to other community agencies and institutions Participates in continuing education and professional development programs. Participates in the review & selection of required textbooks and educational aids in their subject area. Participates in the evaluation, revision, and development of policies regarding admission, evaluation, progression and graduation of students.
