The relief veterinarian will provide high-quality medical care to primarily canine and feline patients while working collaboratively with our experienced veterinary support team. The ideal candidate is confident in general practice medicine, communicates clearly with clients and staff, and can manage appointments independently while maintaining thorough medical records. Experience with exotic pets, surgery, dentistry, or urgent-care cases is welcome but not required unless agreed upon for a particular shift. Responsibilities Perform comprehensive physical examinations and develop appropriate diagnostic and treatment plans. Diagnose and manage routine medical, preventive-care, and same-day sick-patient cases. Order and interpret laboratory testing, diagnostic imaging, and other appropriate diagnostics. Prescribe and administer medications in accordance with applicable laws and accepted standards of care. Perform routine surgical and dental procedures when scheduled and mutually agreed upon. Recognize urgent or unstable patients, provide appropriate stabilization, and recommend referral when necessary. Communicate diagnoses, treatment options, estimates, and follow-up instructions clearly and compassionately to clients. Maintain accurate, timely, and complete electronic medical records. Collaborate respectfully with technicians, assistants, receptionists, and clinic management. Follow clinic protocols for patient safety, anesthesia, controlled substances, infection control, and medical-record documentation. Qualifications Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM/VMD) degree, or equivalent. Current and unrestricted California veterinary license. Current DEA registration when required for the duties performed. Ability to practice independently and manage a general-practice caseload efficiently. Strong clinical judgment and commitment to ethical, compassionate patient care. Excellent communication, teamwork, and client-service skills. Professional liability insurance, if required based on the employment arrangement. Experience with exotic pets, surgery, dentistry, or urgent-care medicine is a plus but not required. Position Details Flexible relief schedule with the possibility of recurring shifts. Shift dates and hours will be agreed upon in advance. Competitive compensation based on experience, responsibilities, and shift requirements.
