VETNECESSITY
VetNecessity is a brand-new, privately owned and locally operated veterinary practice opening in Greenfield, Massachusetts, in November 2026. By offering accessible, same-day care, we will support primary care practices while improving access and convenience for pet owners. Dr. Stephanie Vassar founded VetNecessity to create the kind of workplace she wanted for herself and her colleagues: one where excellent care and compassion don't come at the cost of a life outside of work. At VetNecessity we are investing in the people as well as the equipment, technology, and workflows they need to provide great care and to leave work on time. There are many roles in our hospital, and we are building the team so that each person's skills complement the others. The days may be busy, but we want you to finish them feeling accomplished and energized by the people you work with. VetNecessity is seeking enthusiastic, compassionate, and skilled veterinarians to join our team and contribute to the development of a new, locally owned hospital.
POSITION SUMMARY
The veterinarian will lead patient care in a modern practice designed specifically for high-quality urgent care. You will have access to excellent equipment, straightforward workflows, and a strong technician-to-DVM ratio to keep you supported throughout the day. Doctors who want to perform surgery or more advanced procedures will have the tools to do so, while those who want to develop these skills will have opportunities to learn.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Examine, diagnose, and treat patients presenting with urgent medical conditions Develop clear treatment plans and communicate them effectively to clients and the team Oversee case management and ensure continuity of care, including referrals when needed Uphold high standards of veterinary medicine, patient safety, and client communication Direct and collaborate with technicians and assistants to maintain efficient patient flow Work as part of the whole team, utilizing each person's skills and expertise Help create a positive, fun, respectful, and team-forward workplace culture Maintain thorough, accurate, and timely medical records Support our culture of learning, mentorship, and teamwork
QUALIFICATIONS DVM/VMD
degree from an accredited veterinary program Active Massachusetts veterinary license, or eligibility to obtain one DEA license, or the ability to obtain one prior to start Weekend availability required — Saturday and Sunday are two of our four clinic days Ability to work efficiently, prioritize cases, and make sound medical decisions in a fast-paced environment An excellent communicator who corresponds clearly and compassionately with clients and team members alike A willingness to teach and mentor Strong diagnostic and case-management skills Urgent-care or emergency experience is a plus but not required. We welcome veterinarians coming from general practice who are comfortable managing same-day medical cases and would like to develop additional urgent-care skills.
SCHEDULE
Part-time and full-time positions are available, ranging from 10 to 40 hours per week.
The clinic will see appointments:
Thursdays & Fridays, 10am-8pm Saturdays & Sundays, 8am-6pm Closed major holidays No overnights
COMPENSATION
Part Time:
Competitive per diem rates
Full Time:
The starting base salary will be determined based on scheduled hours, experience, and skill set. Compensation packages may include either a straight salary or a commission-based structure, including a ProSal option.

$65,000.00 - $195,000.00 per year
