Overview Animal Welfare League of Trumbull County is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization located in Vienna, Ohio. We are the Humane Society in Trumbull County, prioritizing the rescue and rehabilitation of animals that have suffered from cruelty, abuse, and neglect. We are looking for several veterinarians to join our cause, aiding specifically in contract surgery capacity for shelter pets. We are open to differing availabilities, and would like a commitment to one scheduled surgery day per quarter (once every 3 months). Shifts can be scheduled between the hours of 8am and 6pm any day of the week, and can be offered from 3 hours to 10, based on the preference of the veterinarian. The bulk of our needs are basic spays and neuters for dogs and cats, but we excitedly welcome other type of surgical skills as well! This paid position provides valuable experience in veterinary surgery, internal medicine, anesthesiology, and critical care, all within a professional ethical framework. Responsibilities Perform a wide variety of surgical procedures including soft tissue, orthopedic, and exotic animal surgeries with precision and care. Surgery types are based on skillset and physical capabilities. Administer general anesthesia and monitor patients throughout surgical interventions using aseptic techniques to prevent infection Direct staff to handle animal restraint and animal handling techniques safely and effectively during examinations and procedures Conduct pre-operative assessments, including evaluating animal physiology, anatomy, and medical history to determine appropriate surgical plans Provide post-operative care, including pain management. Communicate clearly with medical staff regarding surgical procedures, treatment plans, and post-operative instructions to ensure understanding and compliance Maintain detailed medical records following clinical ethical guidelines and veterinary terminology standards Experience Proven veterinary experience with a focus on surgery; experience with exotic animals is a plus Strong knowledge of veterinary medicine principles including animal anatomy, physiology, internal medicine, oncology, cardiology, dentistry, and emergency medicine Hands-on experience with general anesthesia administration and monitoring during surgical procedures Familiarity with laboratory techniques relevant to veterinary diagnostics and treatment planning Demonstrated ability to handle animals safely using restraint techniques such as animal catheterization and aseptic methods Ability to work efficiently under pressure in critical & intensive care settings while maintaining high standards of professional ethics Join us to advance your career in veterinary surgery within a team dedicated to excellence in pet health!
