Job Summary We are seeking a dedicated and highly skilled Lead Small Animal Veterinarian to oversee our small animal veterinary services. The ideal candidate will possess a strong veterinary background, with expertise in animal health, critical care, and surgical procedures. As the Lead Veterinarian, you will provide clinical leadership, ensure the highest standards of animal care, and foster a collaborative environment among the veterinary team. Your role will be pivotal in delivering comprehensive medical services for small animals, including dogs and cats, while maintaining compliance with safety and ethical standards. Duties Provide expert veterinary diagnosis, treatment, and surgical procedures for small animals, ensuring optimal health outcomes. Lead and mentor veterinary staff, including associate veterinarians and veterinary technicians, promoting professional development and teamwork. Oversee emergency and critical care cases, utilizing veterinary critical care experience to stabilize and treat severely ill or injured animals. Ensure proper animal restraint techniques are used during examinations and procedures to guarantee safety for both animals and staff. Maintain thorough knowledge of veterinary terminology, animal physiology, anatomy, and husbandry practices to inform clinical decisions. Manage laboratory testing processes, including sample collection and analysis, to support accurate diagnoses. Implement aseptic techniques during surgeries and invasive procedures to prevent infections and promote healing. Promote a positive environment focused on animal welfare by applying expertise in pet care, handling, and husbandry. Ensure compliance with all safety protocols related to laboratory work, anesthesia administration, and medication handling. Requirements Veterinary degree from an accredited institution with valid licensure to practice in Pennsylvani. Extensive veterinary experience with a focus on small animals; additional equine experience is advantageous but not mandatory. Proven expertise in veterinary critical care and emergency medicine within a clinical setting. Strong animal handling skills across various species with an emphasis on dog handling techniques. Knowledge of veterinary terminology, animal anatomy, physiology, and pet grooming practices. Experience performing animal catheterization and administering aseptic techniques during surgeries or procedures. Laboratory experience related to diagnostic testing and sample analysis is preferred. Excellent communication skills for effective collaboration with team members and client education on pet health issues. Ability to lead a team effectively while maintaining high standards of animal welfare and client service.
