Position Summary:
The Strasburg High School Head Football Coach is responsible for the overall leadership, organization, development, and supervision of the high school football program. The head coach will establish and maintain a program that emphasizes competitive excellence, character development, sportsmanship, academic success, leadership, and community pride. The position requires a strong commitment to building a comprehensive 9-12 football program aligned with the mission and values of Strasburg School District 31J. The head coach is expected to foster positive relationships with student-athletes, families, staff, youth programs, and the community while developing a culture of accountability, discipline, and teamwork.
Essential Requirements:
To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to execute each requirement satisfactorily. Qualifications Previous football coaching experience required; high school head coaching experience preferred. Demonstrated knowledge of football fundamentals, strategy, and player development. Strong leadership, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. Ability to build and sustain a positive, competitive program culture. Ability to provide leadership and act with professionalism and integrity with school staff, students, parents, and community groups. Commitment to educational athletics and student-centered coaching. Must meet all district hiring requirements, background checks, and coaching certifications. Preferred Qualifications Experience coordinating or overseeing multi-level football programs. Experience with offseason strength and conditioning programming. Experience developing youth and feeder program relationships. Teaching license or ability to work within a school setting preferred Desired Characteristics Positive role model and mentor for student-athletes. High character, integrity, and professionalism. Time Commitment Daily practices and competitions during the season. Offseason strength, conditioning, and program development responsibilities. Summer team activities and camps as approved by CHSAA and the district. Attendance at meetings, clinics, and school/community events related to the football program. Primary Responsibilities Program Leadership & Development Direct and oversee all aspects of the high school football program, including varsity, junior varsity, and developmental levels. Establish and communicate a clear program philosophy, expectations, and standards. Build a year-round football program emphasizing athlete development, leadership, accountability, and sportsmanship. Coordinate and collaborate with middle school and youth football programs to promote program continuity and growth. Supervise and evaluate assistant coaches and ensure alignment within the program. Help promote participation and enthusiasm for the football program within the school community. Practice, Competition & Player Development Plan and conduct organized, efficient, and developmentally appropriate practices. Teach football fundamentals, advanced techniques, and strategies consistent with CHSAA standards. Prepare teams for competition through film study, scouting, conditioning, and game planning. Promote strength and conditioning participation and offseason development opportunities. Ensure proper supervision of student-athletes during practices, games, travel, and team activities. Student-Athlete Development Foster a culture that prioritizes academic achievement, character, leadership, and responsibility. Promote positive sportsmanship and respectful behavior toward teammates, opponents, officials, staff, and spectators. Support the social and emotional growth of student-athletes through mentorship and relationship-building. Monitor athlete eligibility, attendance, academic progress, and conduct. Program Administration Coordinate schedules, transportation, equipment needs, budgets, and facility usage with the athletic department. Maintain accurate inventory and ensure proper care of uniforms and equipment. Assist with fundraising efforts and community engagement activities consistent with district policies. Attend athletic department meetings, league meetings, rules clinics, and professional development opportunities. Safety & Compliance Ensure compliance with all CHSAA, league, district, and school policies and procedures. Promote athlete safety through proper instruction, supervision, and adherence to concussion and heat illness protocols. Maintain required certifications including CPR/First Aid, concussion training, and any district-mandated coaching requirements. Report injuries, incidents, and concerns appropriately to administration and parents. Communication & Community Relations Communicate effectively and professionally with student-athletes, parents, staff, administration, media, and community members. Represent Strasburg High School and District 31J in a positive and professional manner. Promote community pride and positive relationships within the football program and broader school community. Provide timely communication regarding schedules, expectations, and program updates. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations, and/or
Testing Required:
Successfully pass the CHSAA coaches test, acquire CHSAA coaching registration and complete a concussion course per State Legislation and CHSAA By-Laws.
CPR & AED
Certifications required. Ability to drive students in a school vehicle to and from competitions.
Evaluation:
Performance will be evaluated annually by the Athletic Director and/or Building Principal in accordance with district policies and expectations for extracurricular staff.
Physical Demands/Work Environment:
Between sitting, standing, and walking throughout the day lifting up to 50 pounds on an occasional basis and 10 pounds on a frequent basis, occasionally stooping, kneeling, crouching, overhead reaching and fine motor activity, frequently sitting, standing, walking, balancing, reaching at desk and floor level, firm and simple grasping. The work requires constant seeing, hearing, and talking.
