DESCRIPTION TITLE
Head Coach
REPORTS TO
Athletic Director and Principal
JOB GOAL
Varsity coaches are responsible for organizing and directing an athletic activity consistent with generally accepted aims of sports in an educational setting.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Washington State Background Check Fingerprint Check High School Diploma/Transcripts Must comply with all District rules and regulations
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
Demonstrate a strong understanding of fundamentals and knowledge of the rules and regulations regarding this sport as presented in the WIAA Handbook. League SOP's, National Federation Handbook, and in District policy. Attend appropriate and required rules interpretation meetings as prescribed by WIAA and keep abreast of current sport knowledge by attending clinics and workshops when possible. Explain all regulations of the district concerning interscholastic activities participation guidelines, including athletic code, to your participants.
SAFETY:
Provide direct supervision of participants during and after practice and games until they leave the school premises. Emphasize safety precautions and instruct team members in the rules and techniques of the activity. Report all injuries on the correct accident form and see that proper attention is given to injuries. Have an up-to-date first aid/CPR card. Ensure that each participant has had a physical and is covered by insurance before participating in practices. Provide safe equipment for athletes throughout the season.
ADMINISTRATIVE
Accountable for the distribution and security of all athletic equipment and uniforms. Arrange for cleaning, safety inspection, inventory, and storage of all equipment. Submit an inventory to the AD. Hold athletes responsible for equipment not returned. Cooperate with the media and parent groups. Provide rosters to the AD. Be knowledgeable about District financial policies and submit budget requests to the Activities Director. Make recommendations for care, maintenance, additions, or improvements of facilities. Maintain records of team and individual accomplishments and submit a copy to the AD. Evaluate assistant coaches and report to AD. Other duties as assigned by the AD and/or Principal(s).
ETHICAL:
Be responsible for the actions and conduct of your team whenever they are under your jurisdiction. Conduct yourself and the program in a professional manner. Enforce discipline and sportsmanlike behavior at all times, and establish and oversee penalties for breach of such standards by individual students.
EVALUATION
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of extra-curricular personnel.
