Job Title:
Operator Assistant Weekly Pay || $20 - $22 per hour Job Description The Operator Assistant plays a dual role of keeping production lines stocked with materials and performing loading and unloading activities for shipping and receiving. This position operates sit-down forklifts throughout the plant to move formed metal between roll forming and secondary/utility areas, stage materials for work cells, and load finished goods into the warehouse and onto trucks. When forklift work is lighter, the Operator Assistant supports the roll line by offloading parts and assisting with line setup, ensuring smooth and efficient production flow. Responsibilities Operate a sit-down forklift safely to move formed metal from the roll forming area to the secondary/utility area and back as needed. Load finished materials into the warehouse and onto trucks for outbound shipments. Keep production lines and work cells stocked with required materials and components. Transport bundles from work cells, move racks, and empty hoppers to maintain efficient material flow. Assist the roll line with offloading parts when forklift responsibilities are lighter during the shift. Help with production line setup, including loading and unloading parts from the line. Use hand tools to load and unload parts safely and efficiently. Pack finished goods securely and accurately for shipping. Perform shipping and receiving tasks, including loading and unloading trucks and machinery. Use computer systems and RF scanners to manage inventory control and document goods shipped and received. Complete and process paperwork, including data entry, bills of lading, work orders, and other shipping and receiving documentation. Conduct cycle counts and support inventory control activities to maintain accurate stock levels. Coordinate with team members in the warehouse and production areas to ensure timely movement of materials and finished products. Follow all safety procedures and maintain a clean and organized work area in an industrial manufacturing environment. Essential Skills Proven sit-down forklift operating experience, including safe loading, unloading, and material movement in a warehouse or manufacturing setting. Industrial or manufacturing experience, preferably in a plant or production environment. Shipping and receiving experience, including loading and unloading trucks and handling materials and finished goods. Strong computer skills for inventory control, data entry, and documentation of goods shipped and received. Experience with RF scanners for picking, inventory management, and warehouse transactions. Material handling skills, including moving racks, bundles, and using hand tools to load and unload parts. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience operating warehouse forklifts in a manufacturing or industrial setting. Familiarity with crane operation in a production or warehouse environment. Experience working with roll forming or metal forming operations is a plus. Strong attention to detail when packing finished goods and completing documentation. Why Work Here? The environment is industrial, experiencing both hot and cold temperatures at different times, and while it is not excessively dirty, it reflects typical conditions of a metal manufacturing plant. Employees work around roll forming lines, secondary processing equipment, forklifts, and other material handling machinery. The culture is described as laid back and relaxed for those who consistently do their job, with a focus on teamwork and steady productivity. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Shelbyville, KY. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $21.50 - $21.50/hr.
