How you'll contribute A Histology Technician who excels in this role: Able to perform/knowledge of all items in the Histology Competency Assessment Booklet and takes initiative to complete competencies. Meets turn-around-time standards. Maintains orderly filing system for blocks and slides. Ensures lock and slide prep are completed accurately. Orders Histo/Cyto supplies. Correct entry of information into Windowpath computer system. Statistical/QA reports complete and timely. Maintenance is performed adequately on equipment. The Histologist performs a variety of routine laboratory duties in the preparation and processing of histopathological specimens to assist in diagnosis and treatment of disease. This position includes staining and processing of cytology specimens, record keeping including slides, blocks and reports. A complete list of procedures performed is located in the competency assessment. Computer entry and retrieval of reports is also required. Techs are expected to work independently, without direct supervision. If direct supervision is required to perform any testing or processing, this will also be documented on the competency. Education:

High school diploma or GED required.

Certifications:

Basic Life Support (BLS) required

Experience:

Proficient knowledge of histology equipment and computer systems. Prior experience in laboratory preferred

Licenses:

CLA or equivalent training in histology

Required Skills:

Familiarity with organization and functions of each hospital department Leadership ability, integrity, and initiative required. Ability to solve problems effectively and handle stress in a positive manner. Maintain harmonious relationships with nursing personnel, medical staff, hospital administration, and all hospital department.
