Job Description

Emma Kaufmann Camp is located along Cheat Lake in Morgantown WV. Owned and operated by the Jewish Community Center of Greater Pittsburgh, EKC is a co-ed residential camp with an emphasis on teambuilding, developing positive values, independence, premiere programming and activities. General Responsibility:
The Horseback Riding Supervisor is responsible for supervising the horseback riding activity counselors and supporting the overall operation of the stables and riding program. They will provide leadership to the HBR team, help plan and facilitate daily riding programming, and lead lessons or riding groups of their own. The Horseback Riding Supervisor is responsible for the safety and whereabouts of all campers participating in the riding program and for maintaining a safe, organized, and welcoming environment at the stables. They will collaborate closely with the riding staff to develop age-appropriate lesson plans and program goals. The Horseback Riding Supervisor will work in partnership with the supervisor team and will report to the Director of Administration, Business, and Operations. This position is an "in-residence" position, requiring them to live onsite during employment. Dates for the summer are June 1-August 10, with flexibility for time off based on other projects the employee may be committed to.
Desired Qualifications:
Experience working with horses and/or horseback riding instruction Riding certification(s) preferred (or equivalent experience) Desire and willingness to engage with children Ability and willingness to accept supervision and guidance Ability to problem solve and be flexible as schedule changes, weather challenges, and other issues arise Experience working with children ages 6-16 in a recreational setting Possess excellent communication skills Capacity to work with a broad range of people Strong abilities both to collaborate with a team and work autonomously
Responsibilities/Expectations:
Attend Head Staff and General Staff Orientation, June 1-20, 2026 Responsible for the supervision of the Horseback Riding Activity Counselors Review and approve the planning of daily riding lessons and activities Support daily stable operations including organization, scheduling, and camper flow Maintain safety standards for campers, staff, and horses at all times Collaborate with riding staff to develop riding sessions that are appropriate for the age and ability of campers ages 7-16 Assist in teaching horseback riding skills, horsemanship, and stable etiquette as needed Support the care and upkeep of stable equipment and supplies (helmets, tack, grooming tools, etc.) Collaborate with the riding team to plan and execute special riding program elements (trail rides, themed riding days, showcases, etc.) Be responsible for planning and executing Chugim programs as needed Facilitate clean-up and organization of the stables and riding area after activities Assist the programming team in set up and breakdown of programs, including but not limited to unit programs, staff programs, and signature events Be punctual to all programs and meetings Be responsible for the proper use of equipment and supplies Cooperate with Camp leadership in matters involving rules, safety, and programming Set a good example in all areas of camp life; act as a role model Be a positive, contributing member of the camp team
Additional Responsibilities:
Set a good example for campers including cleanliness, punctuality, sharing cleanup and chores, and sportsmanship Follow camp rules and regulations Keep a clean and tidy cabin and living space Complete duties as assigned Attend all staff meetings as directed Encourage respect for personal property, camp equipment and facilities Manage personal time off in accordance with camp policy Additional responsibilities as assigned (These responsibilities are not to be construed as a complete statement of all duties performed.)

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
While performing the above duties, this position routinely requires handling persons and/or objects and moving safely throughout the building. This position may include walking, sitting, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling. This position requires communicating, either verbally or in writing. This position frequently requires moving items weighing up to 25 pounds. This position occasionally requires moving items weighing up to 50 pounds. Must be able to complete all essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodations.
