Min Hourly Rate $15.05 (Standard); $14.05 (Non-Urban); $16.30 (Portland Metro) Max Hourly Rate $21.50 (Standard); $19.50 (Non-Urban); $22.00 (Portland Metro) Position Summary This recruitment will be used to fill one to four (1-4) part-time/full-time (a maximum of 24 hours per week during the term and 40 hours per week when not enrolled) Student Facilities/Maintenance positions for the Department of Horticulture at Oregon State University (OSU). Performs light to heavy unskilled tasks such as equipment operations, grounds maintenance, painting, field assistance, maintenance support, cleaning, and other operational duties. Will require operating an unlicensed utility vehicle cart on an OSU extension farm (no public streets). The competencies students develop while working at OSU are defined by the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) as the essential skills employers seek in their hires. In this position, students learn and build vital career-readiness skills in the primary areas below: Communication, Critical Thinking, Teamwork Position Duties 80% Landscape maintenance Mowing, weeding, edging, fertilizing, hedge trimming, and hand watering, etc. Lift 50-pound bags of fertilizer. Operate unlicensed utility vehicle on the farm to transport weeds and/or grass clippings from the plot to the compost pile. Successfully complete and maintain appropriate farm, lab and greenhouse safety training and certifications. 10% Equipment maintenance Irrigation pipe, sprinkler heads, etc. 5% Cleaning Utility vehicle, equipment, shop, etc. 5% Other duties as assigned. Experience working with small outdoor equipment, such as mowers, edgers, etc. Working Conditions / Work Schedule Will include work outdoors in all types of weather. Will require walking, standing, bending and stooping for extended periods. Will be exposed to dust, fumes, noise and unpleasant variation in temperature. Will require maneuvering and transporting heavy objects up to 50 pounds. May require working around caustic compounds such as pesticides.
