Instructor, Culinary and Baking & Pastry Salary Depends on Qualifications Location Morehead City, NC, NC Job Type Full Time Faculty Job Number 00603 Department Carteret Community College Opening Date 09/11/2026 Closing Date 9/16/2026 11:59 PM Eastern Description Benefits Internal Only Posting The Culinary and Baking & Pastry instructor will facilitate high quality and safe instruction in both Curriculum and Workforce Continuing Education programs within the areas of Culinary Arts and Baking & Pastry programs. The Instructor will plan activities appropriate to students of varying skill levels, including individuals with disabilities.
Duties include:
Assume responsibility for teaching assignments as approved by the division Dean. Adhere to the departmental course guidelines and facilitate the learning process by designing and implementing instructional activities that are appropriate and meaningful. Follow division guidelines for ordering supplies and materials for labs and supervise and prepare lab activities and assignments as needed with direction and approval program leads and the Dean within a given budget. Fulfill the duties of clinical or lab instructor in supervision of students and maintain all required college records including attendance and grade reports, roll books, etc. Compile bibliographies of specialized materials for outside reading assignments where applicable. Evaluate student performance using methods appropriate to the course. Maintain, review, and update course descriptions, objectives, and outlines for courses of instruction and develop new courses of study as necessary. Review compatibility with the Division Dean/Program Chair, and team faculty members. Participate in departmental activities relating to revising and updating the program(s) in the area of expertise, selection of supplies, equipment, equipment repairs, textbooks for courses of study, and the scheduling of classroom and laboratory facilities. Assist with the development of new programs, both curriculum and workforce continuing education, in the area of expertise. Participate in department, division, and college-wide advising activities, and learn and maintain proficiency with program requirements of assigned advisees. Develop a professional development plan that is approved by the curriculum area lead and division Dean and participate in those approved activities. Maintain current licensure, certification, or other professional credentials required for position. Keep abreast of current technology. Participate in on-campus professional development activities. Adhere to all institutional policies and procedures. Attend all required department, division, and college-wide meetings. Serve on committees as required. Participate in college-wide activities. Maintain contact with specialized vocations where applicable. Be alert to public relations opportunities and use these to promote the college and the department. Assist in planning and conducting advisory committee meetings. Serve on College committees and task forces as assigned. Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
Associate's degree in Culinary Arts, Baking & Pastry or related field.
Preferred:
Bachelor's degree in Culinary Arts or related field.
Knowledge and Skills:
Three to Five years professional culinary experience or related experience 2 to 3 years' experience related to teaching or training in the Culinary Arts Computer skills including Microsoft Office. Ability to teach in related fields Experience using Moodle learning management system and teaching experience in higher education a plus. Must be ServSafe Certified. Teaching and administrative experience leading to this level of responsibility. Demonstration of skills in the areas of communication, organization, and managing multiple priorities Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, faculty, staff, community groups, and others Demonstrated ability to work within a collaborative team environment.
Preferred qualification:
Industry certifications, such as ACF Certified Chef de
Cuisine or CIA ProChef Working Conditions and Environment:
Ability to accommodate a flexible working schedule. Limited travel within service area.
Physical Demands:
Must be able to lift and carry 50 lbs. 100 feet. Have the strength and stamina to work on your feet for a continuous 12 hours. The College reserves the right to alter duties, responsibilities, conditions, working hours, and job title as necessary. Unused accrued sick leave can be converted to service credit for retirement Staff receive fourteen (14) vacation days per year which increases as the length of service increases and accumulates year-to-year. Faculty do not receive vacation leave, rather, they have. on average, 20 scheduled, paid non-instructional days built into the academic calendar. Faculty receive paid breaks throughout the academic year, including a Spring Break, Fall Break, and holiday break in December 12-month employees work 1,976 hours per year, which allows for an adjusted summer schedule of 4-day work weeks. Longevity pay yearly (based on length of service beginning 10 years and up) Optional 401K/457 plans Low-cost State Health Plan - employee only monthly premium for the Standard (70/30) Plan is based on salary band, and ranges from $35 per month to $80 per month.
