Job Description

Weekend Bakery Cook and Production Baker Otok Bakery | Hoboken, New Jersey Part-time | Friday through Sunday | 6:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. Approximately 18 hours per week
Pay:
$20-$23 per hour, depending on experience Otok Bakery is an independent neighborhood bakery in Hoboken and home to a nearly 130-year-old coal-fired oven. We are looking for a reliable and experienced bakery or kitchen professional to lead our weekend savory production and support our pastry team. This position is ideal for someone with experience in a bakery, café, restaurant or other commercial kitchen. You do not need to be a formally trained pastry chef, but you should be confident following recipes, working efficiently and producing consistent, high-quality food. The position runs Friday through Sunday from approximately 6:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Consistent Sunday availability is essential. On Fridays, you will work alongside a production assistant and take the lead on the assigned production list. On Saturdays and Sundays, you will work alongside our lead pastry baker during our busiest production days. Responsibilities Prepare and assemble breakfast sandwiches, focaccia, savory pastries and seasonal specials Lead the production of our simplified savory menu Support sweet pastry and general bakery production as needed Follow established recipes, portioning guidelines and production lists Maintain consistent quality, appearance and taste Organize ingredients and prepare the kitchen for weekend service Label, store and rotate ingredients properly Complete opening, setup, cleaning and closing responsibilities Maintain a clean, organized and food-safe workspace Communicate clearly with the lead pastry baker, production assistant and ownership Learn how to work safely with our historic coal-fired oven after appropriate training Qualifications Previous professional experience in a bakery, café, restaurant or commercial kitchen Experience with breakfast, savory or bakery production strongly preferred Comfortable taking ownership of an assigned production list Strong organization and time-management skills Reliable, punctual and comfortable with a 6:00 a.m. start Calm and proactive in a small, fast-moving kitchen Able to follow detailed recipes and maintain consistent portions and presentation Comfortable working both collaboratively and as the production lead Able to lift approximately 50 pounds and remain on your feet throughout the shift Culinary or pastry education is welcome but not required Coal-oven experience is not required. Full training will be provided, and you will not be expected to manage the oven independently until you have received sufficient training.
