Bakery Production Baker - Sweet & Savory Otok Bakery Hoboken, NJ Job Details Part-time From $20 an hour 10 hours ago Qualifications Bakery experience Culinary Arts Organizational skills Manual handling Time management Full Job Description Job Overview Otok Bakery | Hoboken, NJ Part-time | Sunday through Thursday | Early mornings Starting pay: $20 per hour Otok Bakery is an independent bakery located in Hoboken and home to a nearly 130-year-old coal-fired oven. We are looking for a reliable baker to join our production team and prepare a combination of sweet and savory items. This is a hands-on position for someone who enjoys working from scratch, takes pride in consistency and organization, and is comfortable working both collaboratively and independently. The new hire will work alongside our lead pastry baker on Sundays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. On Mondays and Tuesdays, this person will eventually be responsible for independently managing the day's bakery production and caring for the oven after completing training. Duties Sunday through Thursday Early-morning start, approximately 5:00 or 6:00 a.m. Approximately 30 hours per week, depending on production needs Weekend and holiday availability is required Prepare sweet and savory baked goods from scratch Produce items such as focaccia, breakfast sandwiches, savory pastries and seasonal specials Produce pastries, desserts and other bakery production as needed Follow established recipes, production lists and quality standards Plan and manage production efficiently, including working independently on designated days Learn to safely operate, maintain and care for our historic coal-fired oven Monitor oven temperature and make appropriate adjustments throughout the shift Complete opening, setup, cleaning and closing responsibilities Maintain a clean, organized and food-safe workspace Communicate clearly with the pastry chef, ownership and the rest of the team Help receive, organize and rotate ingredients and supplies Qualifications Professional baking, pastry or culinary production experience Experience with both sweet and savory production strongly preferred Confidence working independently and taking ownership of a production list Strong time-management and organizational skills Dependable, punctual and comfortable with early mornings Willingness to learn the operation and care of a coal-fired oven Ability to follow detailed recipes while using sound judgment when adjustments are needed A calm, proactive attitude in a small, fast-moving kitchen Ability to lift approximately 50 pounds and work on your feet throughout the shift Culinary or pastry education is welcome but not required with equivalent hands-on experience Coal-oven experience is not required. We will provide training, but candidates must be comfortable learning to operate the oven and eventually assuming responsibility for it independently.
