Job Description

Custom Cake Cakery is seeking a creative, dependable Junior Cake Decorator / Decorating Assistant to join our bakery team. This position is ideal for someone who has basic cake-decorating experience and wants to continue developing their skills in a professional custom-cake environment. The right candidate should be comfortable working with buttercream, following design instructions, maintaining a clean workspace, and completing orders accurately and on time. Advanced decorating experience is not required, but applicants should have a basic understanding of cake decorating and a strong willingness to learn.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist with decorating custom cakes, cupcakes, and other desserts Apply buttercream smoothly and neatly Perform basic piping, borders, writing, rosettes, and simple decorative techniques Assist with fondant accents, edible images, sprinkles, toppers, and other decorations Follow photos, sketches, color palettes, and customer order instructions Prepare cake boards, boxes, decorations, and supplies Help complete weekly production and decorating lists Photograph completed work when requested Maintain a clean, organized, and food-safe decorating station Properly store ingredients, tools, and completed orders Assist the baker, lead decorator, and management as needed Follow all sanitation, allergen, confidentiality, and workplace policies
QUALIFICATIONS
Basic cake-decorating experience is required; professional bakery experience is preferred but not required Basic knowledge of buttercream consistency, coloring, filling, stacking, and piping Fondant experience is helpful but not required Creative, detail-oriented, and able to follow design instructions Willing to learn new decorating techniques Able to work efficiently while maintaining quality Dependable, punctual, professional, and able to meet deadlines Able to stand for extended periods and lift bakery supplies and completed cakes safely Comfortable working independently and as part of a team Must maintain a clean and professional appearance Applicants may be asked to complete a paid decorating assessment or provide photographs of cakes, cupcakes, or desserts they have personally decorated.
