Job Description
Job Summary Kai Coffee Hawaii Roastery is seeking a passionate, experienced, and dependable Lead Barista to support daily café operations and lead the coffee bar team. The ideal candidate will have strong specialty coffee knowledge, excellent beverage preparation skills, and the ability to train and support team members while providing warm, professional service to every guest. Key Responsibilities Lead daily coffee bar operations and support efficient café service Prepare espresso, brewed coffee, specialty beverages, and other menu items Maintain consistent beverage quality, recipes, presentation, and portion standards Train, coach, and support baristas and café team members Demonstrate proper espresso preparation, grinding, dosing, and extraction techniques Operate and maintain espresso machines, grinders, brewers, and other café equipment Monitor espresso quality and adjust grinder settings as needed Provide knowledgeable recommendations about coffee, beverages, and menu items Operate the POS system and process orders and payments accurately Monitor coffee, beverage, and café supplies and communicate inventory needs Restock coffee beans, milk, syrups, cups, ingredients, and other supplies Maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming coffee bar Clean and sanitize equipment, workstations, counters, and service areas Assist with opening, closing, and daily cleaning procedures Support team scheduling and daily assignments as needed Handle guest questions and service concerns professionally Follow food safety, sanitation, and workplace safety procedures Support team members during busy service periods Perform additional duties assigned by café management Requirements Previous barista experience required; specialty coffee experience preferred Previous lead barista or supervisory experience is an asset Strong knowledge of espresso preparation and coffee brewing Ability to adjust grinders and maintain consistent espresso extraction Strong leadership, communication, and teamwork skills Friendly, professional, and guest-focused attitude Strong attention to detail and commitment to beverage quality Experience using POS systems and handling payments Ability to train and support other team members Reliable attendance and strong work ethic Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced café environment Flexible availability, including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays Preferred Skills Specialty coffee and espresso preparation experience Knowledge of coffee beans, roasting, grind settings, extraction, and brewing methods Commercial espresso machine and grinder experience Barista training and team leadership experience Strong guest-service and interpersonal skills Inventory and café operations experience Ability to multitask while maintaining quality and accuracy Strong organization and time-management skills Passion for coffee and hospitality Benefits Benefits may vary based on position, location, employment status, and eligibility.
