Currently hiring for late summer / fall-winter. Part-time. As a KCW Barista, you are a true Daymaker, crafting exceptional coffee experiences while fostering genuine connections with our community. Coffee:
We source exceptional coffees from small artisanal farms around the world, working with suppliers who prioritize ethical practices and sustainable product. Upon arrival at our Calumet roasterie, SCA Roasters Guild-trained roaster Nate Shuttleworth and team process each green coffee in small batches to consistently bring out the unique notes of taste and texture in each variety.

With over 30 years' experience in the professional coffee industry, our team makes a lot more than lattes. We take pride in crafting a meaningful experience that can't be found anywhere else in the Keweenaw. (Dare we say, the entire Upper Peninsula.) From inventing outrageous seasonal drinks to curating our Marketplace with specialty items from all over the Midwest, from helping with your café start-up (including equipment sourcing and coffee bar flow) to training your staff as rockstar baristas, our team is what turns us from just a coffee roaster into a community hub for fun, culture, and inspiration.
Description Key Responsibilities:
Beverage Preparation Craft espresso-based beverages to KCW standards Prepare manual brew methods Maintain consistent drink quality standards Follow recipe specifications Monitor coffee freshness and quality Clean and maintain equipment Customer Service Embody the Daymaker philosophy Create welcoming environment Build customer relationships Share coffee knowledge Handle transactions accurately Maintain clean workspace Quality Control Monitor coffee and milk freshness Calibrate grinders regularly Taste test drinks for quality Follow cleaning protocols Report equipment issues Maintain stock levels Qualifications Coffee preparation experience preferred Strong customer service skills Basic math abilities Food handler's certification preferred Physical stamina Team-oriented mindset Open availability including weekends Physical Requirements Ability to be on feet for extended periods of time Capability to lift up to 50 pounds Ability to work in dynamic environment Manual dexterity for equipment operation
