POSITION OVERVIEW
The Barista is responsible for delivering exceptional coffee and genuine hospitality in a fast-paced café environment. This role requires previous professional barista experience, including preparing espresso-based beverages, steaming milk, maintaining drink consistency, and working efficiently during high-volume service. The ideal candidate is passionate about coffee, attentive to detail, and committed to creating an experience that makes guests want to return every day.
QUALIFICATIONS
Professional Barista Experience:
Previous experience working as a barista in a café or coffee shop is required. Able to do light prep work.
Coffee Knowledge:
Understanding of espresso extraction, dialing in espresso, milk steaming, beverage ratios, coffee preparation methods, and basic latte art.
Speed and Consistency:
Ability to produce high-quality beverages quickly and consistently during peak business periods.
Guest Service:
Experience providing warm, personalized hospitality with a focus on building relationships and driving guest loyalty. Attention to

Commitment to beverage presentation, recipe accuracy, cleanliness, order accuracy, and the smallest details of the guest experience.
Communication Skills:
Strong verbal communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with guests, teammates, and leaders.
Food and Beverage Experience:
Understanding of safely preparing, packaging, and serving beverages and food for dine-in, takeout, and third-party delivery.
Professional Presentation:
Ability to maintain a polished appearance, positive demeanor, and professional conduct consistent with the Mad Nice brand.
Adaptability:
Ability to remain composed, make thoughtful decisions, and adjust quickly while respecting brand standards and guest preferences.
Point-of-Sale Proficiency:
Experience operating a POS system, handling cash, and managing digital and third-party orders.
Teamwork:
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively, communicate effectively, and support the team wherever needed.
Availability:
Ability to work a flexible schedule, including early mornings, weekends, and holidays as required.
JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Prepare espresso-based beverages, brewed coffee, tea, specialty lattes, and other menu items according to Mad Nice recipes and presentation standards. Dial in espresso and monitor grind, dose, extraction time, and beverage quality throughout the shift. Provide knowledgeable recommendations and confidently answer guest questions about coffee, beverages, food, and retail products. Create genuine connections with guests and develop relationships with regulars by recognizing and remembering their preferences. Maintain speed, accuracy, and composure during high-volume service. Follow all food-safety and sanitation requirements in accordance with the Michigan Food Code and company standards. Complete opening and closing duties, including stocking, inventory counts, equipment cleaning, end-of-shift cleaning, and preparing the café for service. Maintain espresso machines, grinders, brewing equipment, and the barista station according to established cleaning and maintenance procedures. Prepare, package, verify, and serve food and beverage orders for dine-in, takeout, and third-party delivery. Check and recheck every order for accuracy, quality, and presentation before it reaches the guest. Handle guest concerns professionally and resolve them in accordance with Heirloom Hospitality Group standards. Accurately operate the point-of-sale system and account for all products sold. Monitor digital ordering platforms and ensure orders are prepared and ready for pickup on time. Communicate shift notes, product needs, guest feedback, and operational concerns to management. Assist with inventory, ordering, receiving, stocking, and communicating product levels to leadership and culinary teams. Maintain clean, organized, and visually appealing café, condiment, retail, and merchandising areas. Support promotional offerings, seasonal launches, special events, and holiday activations.
