Job Description
Job SummaryThe Barista Keyholder is leadership position responsible for upholding and advancing Swedish Hill s coffee program. This role ensures exceptional quality, consistency, and education across all coffee offerings by leading comprehensive training initiatives, maintaining peak performance of all coffee equipment and products, and serving as a dependable key holder responsible for daily operational execution. The Coffee Lead acts as both a technical expert and a mentor, setting the standard for excellence behind the bar.
This position will require open availability and scheduling will be all closing shifts (12pm-8pm)Key ResponsibilitiesI. Training & Quality AssuranceAssist in designing and implementing comprehensive coffee training programs for all new and existing team members.
Drive continuous skill development through required weekly educational sessions and regular performance evaluations, including quizzes.
Conduct advanced training sessions such as latte art workshops and beverage demonstrations.
Uphold and enforce strict standards for beverage quality, accuracy, and consistency across all service and training environments.
II. Coffee & Equipment ExpertiseMaintain in-depth knowledge of all in-house and retail coffee roasts.
Ensure the team is understanding and meeting milk steaming standards, emphasizing correct temperature, texture (dry vs. wet milk), and waste reduction.
Confirm team-wide proficiency in the proper operation, calibration, and care of all coffee and bar equipment.
III. Maintenance & OperationsExecute and oversee recurring, detail-oriented cleaning procedures, including weekly Mod Bar flushes, E80 and Mythos grinder cleanings, and full bar equipment deep cleans.
Manage weekly preventative maintenance schedules and routine equipment check-ins.
Serve as the primary point of contact for equipment issues, escalating concerns as needed.
Act as the central communication link between the MML coffee specialist and technical service providers.
As a key holder, independently open and close the store in accordance with operational standards.
Maintain strong operational awareness, including inventory control (86 management and ordering urgency), proper backstock organization, and the overall visual presentation of the bar and retail areas.
IV. Communication & Service LeadershipProvide regular updates to MML beverage team regarding coffee standards, training needs, and equipment performance.
Actively engage in the Baristacrats Slack workspace and other professional coffee communities.
Lead elevated guest interactions by offering expert product guidance, translating off-menu requests into Swedish Hill offerings, and confidently managing allergy-related concerns.
Minimum QualificationsDemonstrated mastery of coffee preparation, equipment operation, and structured team training.
Strong leadership and communication skills with the ability to set expectations and ensure accountability.
A clear commitment to ongoing education, quality control, and continuous improvement.
Ability to work independently, take full ownership of coffee systems, and deliver measurable training outcomes.
