Weekdays at our headquarters, with rotating weekend event availability Job Summary Copan Coffee Lab is seeking experienced specialty baristas to support the daily operation of our new mobile café. These positions are responsible for preparing exceptional coffee, espresso, matcha, chai, and seasonal beverages while delivering the highest level of customer care, professionalism, and hospitality. Our mobile café will be based at Copan Coffee Roasters headquarters Monday through Friday. On weekends, the café will travel throughout the Houston area for markets, weddings, corporate gatherings, private parties, Coffee & Cars, and other community events. The ideal candidates will have specialty-coffee experience, strong customer-service skills, and the ability to work quickly while maintaining beverage quality, cleanliness, accuracy, and a welcoming atmosphere. They will also help coordinate workflow, support training, monitor supplies, and maintain consistent operating standards. Key Responsibilities Coffee and Beverage Preparation Prepare and serve espresso, coffee, matcha, chai, tea, and seasonal specialty beverages Dial in espresso each morning and make grinder adjustments throughout the day Prepare cappuccinos, lattes, flat whites, cortados, Americanos, and other espresso beverages Steam dairy and alternative milks to the correct temperature and texture Prepare hot and iced matcha and chai drinks according to established recipes Prepare pour-over coffee using approved brewing methods and standards Follow exact recipes, measurements, presentation standards, and serving procedures Maintain consistency in flavor, temperature, texture, appearance, and portion size Taste and evaluate beverages regularly to confirm quality Minimize coffee, milk, matcha, chai, and ingredient waste Maintain high beverage standards during both regular and high-volume service Customer Service and Hospitality Welcome every customer with a friendly, professional, and positive attitude Provide attentive and efficient service without making customers feel rushed Take orders accurately and help customers select beverages based on their preferences Educate customers about coffee origins, roast profiles, processing methods, and brewing techniques Explain menu ingredients, matcha, chai, alternative milks, and seasonal offerings Create a warm, energetic, and memorable café atmosphere Build positive relationships with regular customers, event guests, and community partners Handle customer questions, concerns, and routine service issues professionally Maintain professionalism and composure during busy service periods Represent Copán Coffee Lab and Copán Coffee Roasters professionally at all times Daily Café Operations Assist with opening and closing the mobile café Complete all opening, operating, and closing checklists Organize the bar and prepare equipment before service begins Coordinate drink preparation, order-taking, and customer handoff between team members Help assign responsibilities and maintain an efficient workflow during busy periods Communicate clearly with other baristas, supervisors, and management Monitor service times and take action to prevent unnecessary delays Maintain an organized and fully stocked workstation Ensure the café is clean, prepared, and ready for customers each day Report operational, customer-service, or staffing concerns to management Mobile Café and Event Operations Prepare the mobile café for weekday service at Copan Coffee Roasters headquarters Assist with setup and breakdown at farmers markets, weddings, corporate functions, Coffee & Cars, and private events Travel locally to scheduled event locations Arrive on time and prepared according to the event schedule Confirm that equipment, ingredients, cups, water, ice, and supplies are ready before departure Help secure equipment and inventory before the mobile café is transported Assist with loading, unloading, restocking, and organizing event supplies Adapt to different locations, attendance levels, service environments, and event schedules Maintain professional service standards regardless of event size or location Report electrical, water, refrigeration, equipment, or inventory concerns immediately Only authorized and properly trained employees may tow or move the mobile café Team Support and Training Support the training and development of new baristas and café team members Demonstrate proper drink preparation, customer service, cleaning, and safety procedures Provide professional and constructive guidance when needed Help maintain consistent recipes and beverage standards across all shifts Encourage teamwork, clear communication, and accountability Assist management with daily operating and training needs Lead by example through professionalism, punctuality, cleanliness, and customer care Point-of-Sale Enter customer orders accurately into the point-of-sale system Process digital payments Confirm orders and special requests before completing transactions Follow all transactions and tip-distribution procedures Maintain an organized order queue during high-volume periods Assist with opening and closing the register when assigned Immediately report transaction Inventory and Supplies Monitor inventory of coffee, milk, alternative milks, matcha, chai, syrups, cups, lids, ice, and other supplies Restock ingredients and service items before they run out Assist with daily and weekly inventory counts Record waste, damaged products, and low-stock items Rotate ingredients using first-in, first-out procedures Notify management of supply needs before weekday service and weekend events Organize products and supplies inside the mobile café and designated storage areas Help monitor merchandise and retail coffee inventory Cleaning, Sanitation, and Food Safety Maintain a clean, organized, and inspection-ready café throughout every shift Clean and sanitize the espresso machine, grinders, pitchers, tools, sinks, counters, and service areas Follow daily, weekly, opening, and closing cleaning schedules Follow proper handwashing, food-handling, allergen, and sanitation procedures Prevent cross-contamination between dairy and alternative milk products Properly label, date, rotate, and store ingredients Monitor refrigeration and product temperatures when required Safely operate and care for all coffee and café equipment Report spills, safety hazards, damaged equipment, or quality concerns immediately Follow all company procedures and applicable health-department requirements Required Qualifications Previous barista, specialty-coffee, café, restaurant, hospitality, or customer-service experience Working knowledge of espresso preparation and commercial coffee equipment Experience steaming milk and preparing espresso-based beverages Ability to prepare beverages quickly, accurately, and consistently Strong communication and interpersonal skills Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities Professional, reliable, punctual, and team-oriented Ability to stay calm and solve routine problems during busy service periods Willingness to follow recipes, checklists, operating procedures, and food-safety standards Ability to accept coaching and continue developing coffee knowledge and technical skills Availability to work approximately 40 hours per week Availability for selected weekend events, early mornings, and occasional evenings Reliable transportation to Copán Coffee Roasters and assigned event locations Legal authorization to work in the United States Preferred Skills and Experience At least 2 years of specialty-coffee or high-volume café experience Strong understanding of espresso extraction and grinder adjustment Experience creating basic latte art Experience preparing premium or ceremonial-grade matcha Experience preparing chai and alternative milk beverages Knowledge of pour-over brewing methods Previous café leadership, shift-lead, coaching, or supervisory experience Familiarity with café point-of-sale and inventory systems Experience working at mobile cafés, farmers markets, weddings, festivals, or catered events Strong customer-service and conflict-resolution skills Food Handler Certification or willingness to obtain certification Bilingual English and Spanish communication skills are a plus Physical Requirements Candidates must be able to: Stand and work for extended periods Work inside a compact mobile-café environment Bend, reach, lift, and move supplies throughout the shift Safely lift and carry approximately 40 pounds Work around hot equipment, steam, water, and approved cleaning products Work outdoors in varying weather conditions during scheduled events Maintain concentration, organization, and professionalism during high-volume service Schedule This is a full-time position with an expected schedule of approximately 40 hours per week . Weekday café operations will take place at Copán Coffee Roasters headquarters in Tomball. Weekend schedules will vary according to booked events and may include markets, weddings, corporate gatherings, Coffee & Cars, community events, and private celebrations. When weekend events are scheduled, weekday hours may be adjusted to maintain approximately 40 working hours. Candidates must have reasonable scheduling flexibility because mobile-event hours may vary depending on the location, setup requirements, attendance, and service times.
