Job Description
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
Stocking Supplies:
The Barback must ensure the bar is stocked with liquor, mixers, garnishes, glassware, ice, and other essential items. This includes changing kegs, restocking coolers, and preparing garnishes.Cleaning & Maintenance:
The Barback must keep the bar area clean and organized by washing glassware, cleaning spills, mopping floors, taking out trash, and maintaining a tidy appearance at all times.Bartender Support:
The Barback will assist bartenders by preparing ingredients, restocking bottles, retrieving supplies, and helping with service during busy periods.Customer Interaction:
While primarily behind the scenes, barbacks may occasionally assist guests or answer questions, contributing to a positive customer experience at all times.Inventory Management:
Monitor stock levels and communicate needs to the bar manager. Participate in inventory checks and restocking as needed.Required Skills & Qualifications:
Physical Stamina:
Must be able to lift heavy items up to 75 lbs. (e.g., kegs, cases of bottles), stand for extended periods, walk up and down stairs during shifts, and work quickly in high-pressure environments.Organizational Skills:
Must keep the bar area clean, orderly, and efficiently stocked.Bar & Product Knowledge:
Basic familiarity with bar tools, drink components, and the flow of bar service is helpful for success in this role.Food & Safety:
The Barback must be knowledgeable of common food allergens and be able to communicate any guest allergies to the kitchen. Memorization of the menu offered will also be required. The Barback will also be required to follow basic safety guidelines in the restaurant (i.e. non-slip shoes, hair pulled back, proper handwashing) to comply with Food and Safety regulations.Guest Service:
Must have a positive, engaging personality, and professional appearance. Welcome guests to the restaurant and thank guests for coming in upon their departure. The Barback must also handle feedback, compliments or complaints, with a positive attitude and report immediately to a supervisor. Coordination with servers, bartenders, and hosts will be required to evaluate available seating options for incoming guests. The Barback may also be asked to bus tables and seat guests.Work Environment:
Barbacks work in fast-paced venues like bars, nightclubs, and restaurants, typically during evenings, weekends, and holidays. The role can be physically demanding and requires the ability to multitask under pressure.Career Progression:
