Available Hours:

Available Monday-Friday | June 15 - August 14, as early as 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. at the latest. Seasonal position (20-30 hours) may vary depending on the needs of the program. Must be available all 8 weeks of camp.

Position Overview:

The Summer Assistant Camp Counselor plays a key support role in creating a fun, safe, and engaging camp environment. Under the supervision of Camp Counselors and Recreation staff, assistants help lead daily activities including sports, games, crafts, science projects, and themed events. This is a hands-on, high-energy role that involves working closely with children in an outdoor setting.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist in leading and participating in daily camp activities including sports, games, songs, crafts, and themed programs.
• Help organize and facilitate special events, including scavenger hunts and themed activity days.
• Greet parents/guardians and campers during check-in and check-out; verify authorized pick-up persons.
• Set up and break down activity areas, including lifting and arranging equipment such as canopies, tables, and supplies.
• Maintain a clean and safe environment by sanitizing equipment and program areas.
• Actively engage with campers and model positive behavior at all times.
• Participate in daily water play and/or swimming activities.
• Follow all City of Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks policies and procedures.
• Arrive on time, prepared, and ready to participate each day.

Qualifications:

• Demonstrate good judgment, responsibility, and professionalism when working with children and the public.
• Ability to assist in supervising children in a variety of recreational settings.
• Strong communication skills (both verbal and written)
• Ability to work well with staff, parents, and peers as part of a team.
• Provide excellent customer service and maintain a positive attitude.
• Ability to be comfortable working outdoors in varying conditions (sun, heat, grass, water, etc.)
• Mandatory to have reliable transportation.

Experience and Education:

• Prefer at least one year of experience working with children in a group setting
