Friday, September 11, 2026 10:00am-11:30am Sutter Station Tavern 25 Sutter Street San Francisco, CA No appointment is necessary. Please come in anytime between 10:00am and 11:30am with: A current printed copy of your résumé Your availability A valid, unexpired, physical government-issued photo ID A copy or record of any applicable certifications Your original physical ID must be presented upon arrival. Photocopies, photographs or digital images displayed on a phone will not be accepted. Expired identification will not be accepted. Management will review résumés as applicants arrive. Selected applicants may be invited to complete a brief interview at that time. Not every applicant will be interviewed that day; additional candidates may be contacted afterward to schedule a formal interview.COMPENSATION
$19.61 per hour, plus tipsEXPERIENCE AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Must be at least 21 years old At least one year of professional barback experience required; two years preferred Must be able to communicate effectively in English with customers, coworkers and management, and understand written and verbal instructions, safety information, product labels and emergency procedures. Additional languages are welcome. Current California Food Handler Card, or ability to obtain one before beginning scheduled shifts Willingness to complete all legally required workplace training, including sexual-harassment prevention training Dependable, punctual and able to work responsibly with limited supervision Able to follow directions and communicate effectively with bartenders and management Able to anticipate what bartenders need and keep the bar fully stocked throughout the shift Able to remain calm, organised and efficient in a fast-paced environment Friendly and professional when interacting with customers and coworkers Flexible availability is preferred This is strictly a barback position. The barback will support the bartenders but will not prepare or serve alcoholic drinks to customers.STRICT NO-DRINKING-WHILE-ON-DUTY POLICY
Employees are not permitted to consume alcohol at any time during their scheduled shift, including during breaks. Shift drinks and drinking behind the bar are not permitted. Employees must arrive fit for duty and remain sober for the entirety of their shift.BARBACK RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE
Setting up and breaking down the bar before and after service Keeping liquor, beer, wine, mixers, juices and non alcoholic beverages fully stocked Restocking ice, glassware, straws, napkins and other bar supplies Filling, lifting, carrying and emptying ice bins Cutting fruit and preparing garnishes according to instructions Washing, drying and putting away glassware and bar tools Collecting empty glasses and keeping customer areas tidy Cleaning bar counters, sinks, mats, coolers, equipment and service areas Sweeping, mopping and cleaning spills promptly Keeping bathrooms stocked and clean throughout shifts Emptying trash, recycling and broken-glass containers Breaking down boxes and taking trash and recycling to the designated areas Monitoring supplies and informing bartenders or management when stock is running low Assisting with deliveries and putting away inventory Keeping storage areas clean, safe and organised Completing all assigned opening, closing and side-work duties Assisting bartenders and management with other reasonable cleaning and support duties as neededPHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Applicants must be able to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation, including: Standing and walking for shifts of six hours or longer Frequently bending, reaching, twisting, squatting and moving throughout the bar Safely lifting and carrying ice bins, cases, trash and bar supplies weighing up to 50 pounds Repeatedly handling glassware, bottles, boxes, cleaning supplies and bar equipment Working quickly and safely in a busy environment with wet surfaces, noise and limited space Please bring your résumé, availability and valid physical photo ID.
