Barkade Host / Dog Enrichment Attendant The Hub by Pack Animals San Ramon, CA Job Details Part-time $18 - $20 an hour 22 hours ago Qualifications Customer communication Sales Customer service Greeting customers High school diploma or GED Attention to detail Dog handling Proactiveness Animal body language reading Dog care Full Job Description About Us The Hub is reimagining what it means to spend time with your dog. We believe dog training and enrichment have become unnecessarily complicated—and that one of the best places to start is with fun . The Hub offers group training classes & playgroups, dog parties, community events, and BARKADE , our interactive dog arcade designed to give dogs opportunities to explore, play, problem-solve, build confidence, and run off excess energy. BARKADE includes a rotating collection of interactive stations featuring activities such as agility and movement challenges, different textures and terrain, lure-based games, bubbles, ball launchers, scent activities, and other enrichment experiences. Our approach is rooted in positive reinforcement, thoughtful observation of dog behavior, and creating experiences that are enjoyable for both dogs and the people who love them. Position Overview We are looking for a Barkade Host / Dog Enrichment Attendant to help operate BARKADE at The Hub. This is not a traditional dog daycare role. During BARKADE , dogs participate alongside their owners while exploring different activity stations throughout the facility. The Barkade Host is responsible for creating a welcoming, organized, safe, and engaging experience from the moment a guest arrives until they leave. The ideal candidate is comfortable around dogs of different ages, breeds, sizes, and personalities; can recognize basic dog body language; and genuinely enjoys interacting with people. You should be able to help an uncertain dog build confidence, recognize when a dog needs more space or a different activity, and allow dogs to experiment without unnecessarily interrupting them. Just as importantly, this is a hospitality role . Barkade should feel exciting, easy, and memorable for customers. Hosts should be comfortable explaining the concept, answering questions, recommending activities, assisting customers when needed, and helping guests get the most out of their visit. Key Responsibilities Welcome Barkade guests and provide a friendly, enthusiastic check-in experience. Verify reservations, memberships, credits, payments, and required visitor information. Explain Barkade rules, safety expectations, and how the experience works before guests begin. Help guests choose appropriate activity stations based on availability, their dog's interests, confidence, energy level, and behavior. Observe dog body language and recognize signs of excitement, uncertainty, stress, frustration, or escalating behavior. Step in when needed to maintain a safe environment while allowing dogs appropriate opportunities to explore and problem-solve. Support dogs who are hesitant or unsure by helping owners approach activities gradually and positively. Encourage owners and acknowledge challenges without making them feel like their dog is failing. Help guests use interactive equipment including enrichment toys, agility equipment, lure activities, ball launchers, bubbles, and other Barkade features. Monitor the facility and ensure dogs remain appropriately separated when necessary. Manage transitions between Barkade stations and help prevent unwanted interactions between unfamiliar dogs. Communicate clearly and respectfully when a dog's behavior requires additional space, modification of an activity, use of a leash, or ending a session for safety. Maintain awareness of all active Barkade stations while remaining visible and available to customers. Assist prospective customers with questions about Barkade, The Hub's classes, memberships, and other services. Process drop-in purchases and other transactions as needed. Provide time reminders and help guests transition out of their station at the end of their reservation. Reset stations between visitors so every guest arrives to a clean, organized, and inviting space. Clean potty accidents immediately and follow The Hub's cleaning and sanitation procedures. Keep equipment, water bowls, cleaning stations, leashes, and shared areas organized and stocked. Test interactive equipment and identify maintenance or safety issues before they affect the customer experience. Communicate customer feedback, dog behavior concerns, equipment issues, or operational problems to The Hub team. Capture photos or videos of guests when appropriate and help create memorable moments for visitors. Complete light administrative, cleaning, and restocking tasks during slower periods while remaining available to Barkade guests. Qualifications Previous professional experience working with dogs is strongly preferred . Experience may include dog training, daycare, boarding, shelters or rescues, veterinary settings, pet sitting, dog walking, or other animal-care environments. Comfortable working around dogs of different breeds, sizes, ages, and behavioral backgrounds. Working knowledge of dog body language and the ability to recognize when a dog is becoming uncomfortable or overly aroused. Commitment to positive reinforcement and humane, evidence-informed approaches to dog handling . Strong customer service and interpersonal skills. Comfortable speaking with customers, explaining policies, answering questions, and helping people feel welcome. Able to communicate boundaries and safety requirements confidently and respectfully. Proactive and observant—you notice when a guest needs help, a station needs to be reset, or something in the environment needs attention without waiting to be asked. Comfortable working independently while also communicating effectively with the broader Hub team. Able to adapt quickly in a dynamic environment where different dogs and customers may require different levels of support. Reliable and detail-oriented, with a strong sense of ownership over the appearance and operation of the facility. Ability to work a flexible schedule that may include afternoons, evenings, and weekends. What We're Looking For The best Barkade Hosts aren't simply people who like dogs. We're looking for people who are curious about why dogs do what they do , enjoy watching dogs learn and explore, and understand that sometimes the most valuable thing we can do is give a dog the opportunity to figure something out. We're also looking for someone who enjoys creating a great customer experience . You should feel comfortable celebrating a dog's small wins, reassuring an owner whose dog is hesitant, explaining why a particular activity might be a good fit, and making someone's first visit feel exciting enough that they want to come back. Benefits & Perks Competitive compensation based on experience. Hands-on experience working with dogs in an innovative enrichment and training environment. Access to The Hub's training programs, equipment, and technology. Opportunities for professional development and continuing education in dog behavior and training. Experience with a new concept at the intersection of dog enrichment, training, entertainment, and hospitality. A collaborative environment where team members can directly influence how Barkade evolves. Join Our Team BARKADE is built around a simple idea: give dogs interesting things to do, give them room to make choices, and see what happens. If you enjoy working with dogs, connecting with people, and creating experiences that leave customers saying, "I had no idea my dog would love that," we'd love to hear from you.
