Job Description

About Anchor Spa Anchor Spa is a historic cocktail bar and restaurant in downtown New Haven, blending nearly a century of history with a modern craft cocktail program inspired by the cultures and hospitality traditions of Caribbean port cities. Anchor is owned by acclaimed bartender and hospitality entrepreneur Karl Franz Williams , founder of Harlem's pioneering cocktail bar 67 Orange Street. Karl has spent nearly two decades creating cocktail-driven hospitality concepts and has served as an educator, speaker, and advisor within the beverage industry. For someone serious about entering the craft cocktail world, this is an opportunity to learn within a program shaped by that depth of experience. The Opportunity We're looking for hospitality-driven candidates who are serious about developing a career in craft bartending. You may not yet have the experience to step directly into a craft bartender position—but you should have the curiosity, discipline, and work ethic to grow into one. You will begin primarily as a server, learning Anchor's menu, service standards, and approach to hospitality. As you demonstrate reliability, strong performance, and a commitment to learning, you'll have opportunities to develop behind the bar through preparation work, observation, education, and hands-on practice. This is a genuine development path, but advancement into bartending shifts is earned rather than automatic. It will depend on your performance, preparation, technical progress, consistency, and the needs of the business. What You'll Do Provide warm, knowledgeable, and attentive table service Learn Anchor's food, cocktails, spirits, and hospitality standards Support the bar with stocking, polishing, preparation, and mise en place Participate actively in cocktail and spirits education Study recipes, ingredients, techniques, and service standards Apply coaching and demonstrate consistent improvement Support the team during fast-paced service What We're Looking For Restaurant, serving, barbacking, hospitality, or strong customer-service experience A sincere interest in cocktails, spirits, and hospitality Curiosity and a willingness to study, practice, and accept feedback Strong communication, organization, and attention to detail Reliability, punctuality, and accountability The humility to master foundational work before moving behind the bar Evening and weekend availability Weekend availability is required. Why Anchor Spa? A meaningful pathway into professional craft bartending Exposure to a cocktail program shaped by nearly two decades of industry experience Education in spirits, cocktail history, preparation, technique, and service A collaborative environment that values curiosity and professional growth The opportunity to work at one of New Haven's most distinctive cocktail destinations How to Apply Please submit both a résumé and a short cover letter. Applications without both will not be considered. In a few paragraphs, tell us: Why you want to learn craft bartending Why Anchor Spa interests you What you have already done to learn about cocktails, spirits, or hospitality
