Job Description
JOB PURPOSE
The Sommelier is responsible for providing exceptional wine service and enhancing the guest dining experience through expert wine knowledge and thoughtful food and wine pairings. This position supports the restaurant team by maintaining wine service standards, educating guests on wine selections, and assisting with beverage operations.ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Provide guests with knowledgeable wine recommendations and food pairing suggestions. Deliver professional wine service, including presenting, opening, and pouring wine according to service standards. Maintain extensive knowledge of the restaurant's wine list, spirits, beers, and specialty beverages. Assist in maintaining the wine list and beverage offerings as directed. Support beverage promotions and Omni beverage initiatives. Assist with setting up specialty bars and wine stations for events when needed. Ensure wine displays and beverage presentations are clean, organized, and well maintained. Maintain the cleanliness and organization of wine storage areas and beverage stations. Monitor wine inventory and communicate low stock or product needs to leadership. Assist with stocking side stations and ensuring beverage supplies are readily available. Participate in daily pre-shift meetings and stay informed of menu and beverage updates. Work closely with servers to ensure timely and exceptional beverage service. Answer guest questions regarding wines, vintages, regions, and pairings. Resolve guest concerns professionally and notify leadership when appropriate. Follow all food safety, alcohol service, and responsible beverage service guidelines. Perform additional duties as assigned to support restaurant operationsQUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or equivalent required. Minimum of two (2) years of experience in a fine dining or upscale restaurant preferred. Level 1 Sommelier certification preferred, or equivalent wine education. Strong knowledge of wine, wine regions, varietals, and food pairings. Knowledge of spirits, cocktails, and mixology preferred. Excellent communication and guest service skills. Strong organizational and time management skills. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail. Ability to lift and carry wine cases and stand for extended periods. Must be able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as business demands require.
