Bar:
Barback at The Atlas Room About The Atlas Room The Atlas Room is West Des Moines' premier high-end speakeasy-style cocktail lounge, where exclusivity meets timeless hospitality. We are an intimate, membership-focused lounge with a discreet entry experience, elevated cocktails, and a strong emphasis on atmosphere, service, and attention to detail. As a cocktail lounge with no food service, our focus is on exceptional drinks and thoughtful hospitality. Behind every well-executed evening is a team that keeps the bar stocked, the glassware ready, and the room looking its best. We are seeking a dependable, observant, hardworking barback who takes pride in supporting the team and understands that small details make a significant difference. The Role At The Atlas Room, you help keep the bar moving. You will support the bartenders by maintaining supplies, preparing stations, keeping glassware clean and available, assisting with prep, and maintaining an organized workspace throughout service. You will also support the floor by collecting glassware, clearing tables, and resetting lounge areas. This is an active, hands-on position that requires urgency, awareness, and follow-through. The right person notices what needs attention, communicates clearly, and takes care of the details before they interrupt service. Key Responsibilities Opening & Bar Setup Help prepare the bar for service. Stock stations, organize tools and supplies, fill ice wells, prepare glassware, and complete opening checklists so the team is ready when guests arrive. Keeping the Bar Stocked Replenish spirits, mixers, garnishes, napkins, and other supplies throughout the evening. Monitor what is running low and communicate shortages before they become a problem. Ice & Glassware Keep ice and clean glassware available throughout service. Wash, polish, inspect, and organize glasses to meet the lounge's presentation standards. Follow proper procedures for handling ice and broken glass. Garnish & Beverage Prep Support Assist with citrus, garnishes, juices, syrups, and other assigned preparation under the direction of the bar team. Follow established recipes, labeling, storage, and sanitation procedures. Cleanliness & Organization Maintain clean bar stations, counters, sinks, equipment, and storage areas. Address spills promptly, remove trash and recycling, and keep walkways clear throughout the shift. Hands-On Lounge Support Collect used glassware, clear and reset tables, replenish guest supplies, and help maintain the polished appearance of the lounge. Work with cocktail servers and bartenders to keep service moving smoothly. Team Communication Stay aware of the bartenders' priorities and respond promptly to requests. Communicate low supplies, damaged glassware, equipment issues, and anything that could affect service. Stock & Delivery Support Help receive, put away, organize, and rotate supplies as assigned. Keep storage areas orderly so the team can find what it needs quickly. Closing & Next-Shift Readiness Complete cleaning and closing checklists, properly store ingredients, restock supplies, remove waste, and leave the bar organized and ready for the next service. Who You Are Observant & Proactive You notice an ice well getting low, clean glasses running short, or a table needing attention. You take initiative while staying aligned with the team's priorities. Quick & Composed You work with urgency while remaining careful, organized, and aware of the people around you. Dependable & Consistent You arrive prepared, follow through on assignments, and understand that the team relies on you from opening setup through the final closing task. Team-Oriented & Hands-On You take pride in keeping the bar supplied, washing glassware, clearing tables, and handling the practical work that makes great service possible. Detail-Focused You care about clean glassware, properly stored ingredients, organized stations, and a room that looks ready for every guest. Hospitality-Minded You are courteous and professional when interacting with guests. You understand that your work contributes directly to how the evening feels. This Role Is a Strong Fit for
Someone Who Has:
Experience as a barback, busser, service assistant, or in another busy hospitality support role. A strong work ethic and willingness to learn the routines of a cocktail bar. The ability to prioritize tasks and communicate clearly during busy service. Comfort with active work, including standing, walking, bending, carrying supplies, and moving ice and glassware throughout a shift. A professional appearance and respect for an upscale hospitality environment. Availability for evening, weekend, and closing shifts. This May Not Be the
Right Fit If:
You prefer a role with limited physical activity. You consistently wait to be asked before addressing routine needs. You are uncomfortable washing glassware, cleaning, removing trash, or completing closing duties. You struggle to stay focused and organized when several tasks need attention. You are looking for a position centered on independently making cocktails. What We Offer The opportunity to be part of a distinctive cocktail lounge in West Des Moines. A professional environment where preparation, teamwork, and attention to detail matter. Hands-on experience supporting an elevated cocktail program. A meaningful role in creating a polished, memorable experience for members and guests.
