ABOUT HEY NONNY
Hey Nonny is an intimate live music venue and private event space in downtown Arlington Heights with a full food and beverage program. Our calendar includes ticketed concerts, special programming, private events, and community gatherings. We are looking for an experienced bartender who understands how to deliver fast, polished hospitality in a busy entertainment environment.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Bartender is responsible for providing efficient and welcoming beverage service before, during, and after performances and events. This position serves guests at the bar, supports service throughout the venue, and keeps the bar fully prepared for changing attendance levels, show schedules, and event needs.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Welcome guests and provide attentive, knowledgeable service throughout their visit. Prepare the bar before doors, including stocking products, preparing garnishes, organizing supplies, checking inventory, and confirming that the service area is clean and event-ready. Accurately prepare cocktails, beer, wine, mocktails, and nonalcoholic beverages while maintaining consistency and speed. Manage pre-show, intermission, and post-show service efficiently without compromising accuracy or hospitality. Take guest orders, enter them accurately into the POS system, process payments, and maintain responsibility for assigned checks. Support beverage service for ticketed performances, private events, special programming, and food service throughout the venue. Explain food and beverage offerings, answer questions, and make thoughtful recommendations. Ask about allergies and dietary sensitivities, record the information accurately in the POS system, and communicate it clearly to the kitchen and service team. Maintain a clean, organized, stocked, and safe bar throughout service. Monitor inventory levels and assist with receiving, organizing, rotating, and ordering beverage products and supplies. Work closely with servers, event leads, kitchen staff, door staff, and the Manager on Duty to keep venue service running smoothly. Complete all assigned opening, side work, restocking, payment, waste documentation, and closing responsibilities. Follow responsible alcohol service requirements and all Hey Nonny safety, sanitation, and operating standards. Help create a welcoming guest experience that supports both the performance and the overall atmosphere of the venue.
QUALIFICATIONS
Prior bartending experience is required. Experience in a live music venue, entertainment venue, private event space, or other high-volume hospitality environment is strongly preferred. Candidates should have working knowledge of cocktails, spirits, beer, and wine, including experience preparing craft or sophisticated cocktails. The ideal candidate is personable, efficient, dependable, detail-oriented, and comfortable adjusting quickly to event schedules and changing guest volume. Strong communication, teamwork, time management, situational awareness, and sound judgment are essential. A valid Illinois BASSET certification and Food Handler Certificate are required or must be completed upon hire. Annual sexual harassment prevention training is also required.
SCHEDULE
Evening and weekend availability is required. Scheduling is based on the performance and event calendar and may include concerts, private events, holiday programming, and other special events.
COMPENSATION
$9.25 per hour plus a share of pooled tips. Employees must receive at least the applicable full minimum wage through combined hourly wages and tips.
