Horse barn assistant Camp Marshall - 4.8 Spencer, MA Job Details Part-time $16 an hour 1 day ago Qualifications Teamwork Attention to detail Animal welfare Agriculture Facilities maintenance Full Job Description A horse barn assistant provides daily care and maintenance for horses and the barn environment. Responsibilities include feeding, watering, grooming, cleaning stalls, and assisting with turnout. They also help with maintaining the facility, equipment, and may assist with veterinary or farrier appointments.
Key Responsibilities:
Daily Horse Care:
Feeding, watering, grooming, and cleaning stalls (mucking).
Turnout/Turn-in:
Assisting with turning horses out to pasture and bringing them in.
Facility Maintenance:
Keeping the barn and surrounding areas clean and organized. This may include sweeping, raking, and maintaining paddocks.
Tack and Equipment:
Cleaning and maintaining tack and equipment.
Health Monitoring:
Observing horses for any signs of illness or injury and reporting to the appropriate person. Assisting with
Veterinary/Farrier Care:
Helping with appointments and procedures.
General Barn Chores:
This may include stocking feed, cleaning waterers, and other tasks as needed.
Following Instructions:
Accurately following feeding and care instructions provided by the barn manager.
Maintaining Safety:
Ensuring the safety of the horses, themselves, and others in the barn.
Physical Stamina:
The job requires physical stamina and the ability to handle a physically demanding workload.
Teamwork:
Working effectively with other staff members and volunteers.
Communication:
Communicating effectively with the barn manager and other staff about horse health and any issues. Additional Responsibilities (may vary by facility) Assisting with riding lessons or therapeutic riding sessions. Helping with show or event preparation. Administering medications or supplements. Maintaining fences.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
Experience with horses: Prior experience handling, caring for, and working with horses is essential.
Physical fitness and strength:
The job requires lifting, carrying, and performing physically demanding tasks.
Detail-oriented:
Paying attention to detail is crucial for horse care and safety.
Reliability and punctuality:
Horse care requires consistent and timely attention. Ability to work independently and as part of a team: The role may require working alone at times and also collaborating with others.
Good communication skills:
Clear and effective communication with the barn manager and other staff is important.
Problem-solving skills:
Being able to identify and address minor issues with horses or the facility.
Ability to follow instructions:
Accurately following feeding and care instructions.
