Full Job Description Position Overview:
Barbacks perform essential tasks to support the Bartender(s) and other staff members in delivering high-quality customer service to event patrons. They help with opening and closing duties, stock items, assist in the reordering process, and perform minor repairs. Barbacks will also assist in all areas of event operations as needed and report to the Bar Manager or Event Manager.
Responsibilities:
Before events: Obtain and stock appropriate glassware in bar area(s) and on dining tables Stock bar(s) with ice and ice buckets Assist bartenders in bar set up including stocking bar(s) with beer, liquor and other beverages Pre-pour wine, champagne or other beverages as needed Ensure that sufficient supplies of bar rags and cleaners are available to bar staff Turn on dishwasher Obtain serving trays and glass trays and ensure that they are clean and dry During events: Restock bar(s) with beverages, fruit, ice and glassware as needed Assist wait staff with clearing empty glasses and bottles and return them to appropriate racks and cases Assist Event Manager in performing miscellaneous tasks as needed After events: Ensure that all glassware has been retrieved, washed and stored properly Restock beer and wine coolers Clean sinks of all debris Empty, wash, dry and store fruit trays Gather all empty bottles and cans and deliver them to proper storage areas Empty all trash cans, bag trash and place in dumpster Mop floors in work areas including bar(s) and staging areas
Qualifications:
Valid TIPS (Training and Intervention Procedures for Servers of Alcohol) certification Must be at least 18 years old Courteous, friendly personality Maintain a professional, neat and well-groomed appearance, adhering to the Mechanics Hall dress code requirements Knowledge of menu items, including beers, wines, cocktails, and liquors Strong problem solving, communication, and interpersonal skills, ability to handle tense situations with coworkers and customers calmly and rationally Must be observant, thorough, responsible and punctual Abile to meet physical demands of the position including walking, standing for extended periods, climbing stairs repeatedly and lifting heavy items (50 lbs.) Able to work a varied schedule consisting of nights, weekends, and holidays High School diploma or equivalent This seasonal, hourly position reports to the Event Manager. Events include galas, fundraisers, weddings, dinners, and dinner-dances as well as both public and private receptions before and at performance intermissions. Not all bars service includes alcoholic beverages. Soda and water service is offered at proms and other events when no alcohol is served. Rate of pay is at least $16 per hour, and higher rates are often made based on customer tips. The number of hours will vary depending on the events schedule.
