In 1891, the MC built its current clubhouse in Mount Vernon on the corners of N. Charles and Eager Streets (1 East Eager). The Maryland Club is a well-established social club with a diverse and inclusive membership. Within the Clubhouse is a blend of tradition and modern attributes in our dining areas, event spaces and a state-of-the-art athletics center. The world-class racquet sports facility includes three double squash courts and three single courts to qualify us as a highly competitive arena. The Maryland Club is where members form a camaraderie of life-long friendships and lasting memories. Position Overview The Lead Bartender is organized, able to think and act quickly and effectively while retaining self-composure. Be sensitive and possess a sense of timing. Can guide Members through the menu, being knowledgeable of all things, including questions regarding the food, specials, cocktails and other selections. Take pride in personal appearance and show dedication to your role. Can work well under stress or in high-pressure situations. Is an effective listener - nothing slips through the cracks. Display integrity and honesty in all aspects of your employment. You are responsible for ensuring Member's enjoyment in the Maryland Club by providing exceptional service . This person is an extrovert by nature, a true people-person who gains energy from engaging people in genuine and attentive interactions. They will create memorable and curated food and beverage experiences that ultimately inspire exceptional Member experiences. The Lead Bartender primary duties include: Welcomes each Member personally using enthusiastic words, tone, and body language Ensures Members feel appreciated through your actions Works as a team with all personnel in order to maintain an effective atmosphere and an efficient food and beverage service Works with others to keep all areas cleaned and stocked to the Club's standards Possesses extensive knowledge of all menus, including but not limited to full ingredient lists and preparations Provides warm and empathetic service, tailored to each Member Intakes Member's food and drink orders accurately and efficiently, clearly denoting any modifications, food allergies, or dietary restrictions Inputs orders into computer immediately and makes any changes as needed Performs side work as needed to ensure operation is set-up for a smooth service Assisting in the maintenance of tables throughout the restaurant Mixes, garnishes, and serves alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks for patrons of bar and dining room following standard recipes Arranges bottles and glasses to maintain an attractive display Washes and sterilizes stemware throughout the operation and when closing the outlet Provides anticipatory service by "reading the room" and following the half-full rule when offering another drink Remains alert of Member signals (raising a hand, looking directly at you, etc.), and acknowledges Member so they know you will be right with them Counts drinks guests are served and track open chits Responsibly serves alcohol and remains aware of guests' state of intoxication Other duties as assigned Demands, Hazards and Working Conditions Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds on occasion. Must be able to stand, walk, and work on feet for extended periods of time. Requires grasping, writing, typing / keying, extended periods of standing, walking, repetitive motions, hearing, and visual acuity. Desirable Knowledge Skills and Abilities Advanced knowledge of beer, wine, and spirits, and be familiar with standard drink recipes Excellent communication, organizational, and multi-tasking skills Has exceptional communication skills - there is no such thing as over communicating Works well in a team environment and naturally exudes professionalism Can work well under stress or in high-pressure situations Required Experience and Training
