Job Description

The Rathskeller (instagram: @rathskeller_md) is a fine-casual basement contemporary German restaurant. Just minutes from a wedding venue and the Guinness Brewery, we get high volume despite seating for 60-90. We are looking for industry studs or up-and-coming stars to be a part of team.
Required experience:
At least 3 years working as a server or bartender in a full-service restaurant (not fast food, fast-casual, or cafe's). Extra consideration will be given to those who've worked in top 50 restaurants or restaurants with outstanding reputation.
Required education:
Must possess an immense passion for food and beverage. Extra consideration will be given to those that love to cook, eat out, watch the Food Network, post Insta-pics of food and drinks, home-brew, slam Riesling, or know the German beer purity law by heart.
Required skills:
This position is a dual role bartender/server position as we cross train all servers/bartenders. Our restaurant is built with 2 flights of stairs and there is a lot of ground to cover. The ability to move fast is essential. This is a small team. You're going to have to be great. Being great with guests is only 25% of the equation. Are you great with teammates? Are you great with management? What about your own work ethic? Extra consideration will be given to those that show up on time, be willing to work late, have desires to get the job done right (and quickly), study when they're off, have long term goals, take mistakes on the chin, and love committing themselves to something they believe in.
Required certifications:
None necessary. But extra consideration will be given to those that have or want to get WSET, CSW, CMS, Cicerone, or CSS.
Other notes:
We're a bar. You will be required to work weekends and most holidays
  • definitely Friday and Saturday. It's a tough job so we're looking for tough people. It's also super stressful and things can change instantly. So if you have trouble being solutions-oriented
  • we're probably not a good fit. Like I said, this job is tough and stressful. If you like to yell, bring people down, don't pull your weight, or have trouble sacrificing your ego
  • we're probably not going to work out.
To apply:
Obviously, fill the application out. Please include a cover letter introducing yourself and explaining your resume. We want to know you
  • add some personality, don't just copy and paste a template from Google. If you have a history gap, I want to know why. Double check your spelling and grammar. Thanks for taking the time to read all of this and considering The Rathskeller as your next place of employment. We hope to reward you with a great place to work with an excellent culture
  • no matter if this will be a side hustle for you or if you want to open your own bar in the future!
