Job Description
Job Overview The purpose of this position is to ensure a positive guest experience by accurately and efficiently taking orders, and serving food and beverages in a friendly, relaxed manner. Bar staff are expected to work towards all guests feeling welcomed, and to educate interested guests about our beer and food. They should maintain a clean and presentable brewery that allows guests to feel comfortable. This position requires professionalism, creativity, and good judgment in reading what customers want, needs and resolving any complaints or disputes. Bar staff must be prepared to handle issues independently and involve a supervisor only when their efforts have been unsuccessful. The duties and responsibilities of the bar staff will include, but are not limited to:
- Following the opening checklists and ensuring the establishment is ready for opening.
- Greeting guests, presenting menus, and answering questions as needed.
- Verify age for anyone, according to state laws.
- Recording drink and food orders accurately and promptly into the Point of Sale system.
- Serve food and drink, ensuring guests have the appropriate table set-up for their orders.
- Accepting guest payments, processing credit card charges, and making change if necessary.
- Ensuring guest satisfaction with the food, drinks, and service.
- Responding promptly and courteously to any requests or problems.
- Reporting issues or maintenance needs to management.
- Properly washing and sterilizing glassware, bar, and tabletop surfaces.
- Providing outdoor service during the season.
- Clearing and resetting tables efficiently; bar staff should "never waste a trip."
- Contact management promptly for extra help during busy shifts when extra help is needed.
- Maintaining cleanliness behind the bar, including equipment, taps, counters, sinks, shelves, and storage areas.
- Keeping the restaurant clean by sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, dusting, and cleaning glassware as needed.
- Responsible for keeping up with weekly and monthly tasks to be completed during slow shifts which includes: maintaining merchandise areas, including restocking, sorting, dusting, and organizing the game and puzzle collections; and managing the hot sauce shelf area, including restocking and organizing.
- As needed assisting with restocking and replenishing bar and kitchen inventory and supplies.
- Answering the brewery phone with a friendly greeting.
- Closing bar properly according to the closing checklist. In general, the bar staff must:
- Maintain a positive and professional attitude.
- Demonstrate thorough knowledge of our food and beverage menu. Food allergy and options/alternatives.
- Greet all customers warmly and provide quick, friendly, and personalized service.
- Initiate conversation and build rapport with customers-for example, learning their names, favorite drinks, or remembering them from previous visits.
- Follow health, safety, and sanitation guidelines at all times.
- Strive to improve job skills and promote a positive environment and community of CW.
- The CW dress code is to wear clean, role-appropriate clothing; Clean, relaxed yet professional and practice good personal hygiene.
- Respect colleagues and supervisors by being punctual for every shift.
- Follow all cash management policies and procedures.
- Maintain appropriate workplace behavior.
- Possess basic math skills to handle money and operate a cash register.
- Be able to reach, bend, stoop, and lift up to 40 pounds.
- Obtain or possess a ServSafe Michigan Alcohol Server Certification.
- Be willing to work alone when acting as the person in charge.
- Be able to be active for the entire shift.
- Be flexible and willing to adapt to schedule changes, sometimes on short notice.
- Multitask and stay motivated in a fast-paced environment.
- Follow written and verbal instructions and communicate effectively with managers and team members.
- Operate and use all equipment necessary for restaurant operation.
- Be open to trying new foods and drinks to effectively describe menu items.
- Possess good judgment, have leadership and team work skills.
- Be willing to adapt to workplace changes.
- Educate yourself on new beers and ciders by consulting with a brewer or researching independently.
- Assist in any other brewery areas as needed during a shift.
- Follow all state and local laws, including responsible serving practices.
