Job Description
Position Overview Iza Whiskey & Eats and Sora Sushi & Bar are seeking an experienced, dependable Head Bartender/Bar Operations Lead to oversee bar operations across both of our neighboring restaurant concepts in downtown Carrboro. This is a hands-on leadership position for someone who enjoys bartending while also taking ownership of training, organization, inventory, and service standards. The Head Bartender will work regular bartending shifts while helping management maintain a consistent, efficient, and professional bar program at both restaurants. Our ideal candidate is confident behind the bar, communicates well, leads by example, and understands how to balance quality service with the demands of a fast-paced dinner environment. Responsibilities Work scheduled bartending shifts and lead bar operations during service Maintain consistent cocktail recipes, presentation, portioning, and service standards Train and support new and current bartenders at both restaurants Ensure bartenders understand each restaurant's separate menu, bar program, floor plan, allergens, and service procedures Monitor bartender performance, reliability, professionalism, and adherence to policies Provide coaching and communicate ongoing performance concerns to ownership Assist management with bartender scheduling and shift coverage Help ensure all scheduled bar shifts are properly staffed Complete and oversee bar opening, closing, cleaning, and restocking procedures Manage liquor, beer, wine, mixers, garnishes, and other bar inventory Track product usage and identify shortages, waste, over-pouring, or inventory discrepancies Prepare accurate order lists and coordinate ordering with ownership and vendors Receive and organize deliveries while maintaining clean, properly rotated storage areas Help develop seasonal cocktails, drink specials, and bar promotions Maintain a clean, organized, and guest-ready bar throughout service Ensure compliance with North Carolina alcohol laws and responsible-service requirements Handle guest concerns professionally and support the FOH team as needed Communicate regularly with ownership about inventory, staffing, training, maintenance, and operational needs Qualifications Previous bartending experience in a full-service restaurant or comparable environment Strong knowledge of cocktails, spirits, beer, wine, and responsible alcohol service Prior leadership, training, inventory, or ordering experience strongly preferred Reliable, organized, proactive, and comfortable holding others accountable Able to remain calm and make sound decisions during busy service Strong communication and guest-service skills Comfortable learning and maintaining the standards of two separate restaurant concepts Available to work evenings, weekends, and some holidays Must be at least 21 years old Able to stand for extended periods and lift approximately 40 pounds ServSafe Alcohol, TIPS, or similar certification is preferred About Our Restaurants Iza Whiskey & Eats and Sora Sushi & Bar are two neighboring, independently operated restaurants in downtown Carrboro. Although the restaurants work closely together, each has its own menu, bar offerings, service standards, and guest experience. We are looking for someone who wants to take genuine ownership of the bar program and help us create a more organized, knowledgeable, and consistent team across both locations.
