Job Description

Overview San Juan Country Club is seeking a dependable, experienced, and motivated Bar / Assistant Manager to join our Food & Beverage leadership team. This is a hands-on leadership position responsible for overseeing beverage operations while assisting management with the daily operation of the Front of House department. The Bar / Assistant manager will work alongside bartenders and servers while also providing leadership, training, accountability, and support to the team. The ideal candidate is someone who lead by example, communicates professionally, takes initiative, and can confidently step into a management role when needed. Key Responsibilities Oversee daily bar operations, including setup, service, closing, cleanliness, and organization. Supervise and provide direction to bartenders, servers, and other FOH employees during assigned shifts. Serve as a manager on duty and assist with opening and closing the department when needed. Maintain liquor, wine, beer, mixers, and bar supply inventory. Assist with ordering, receiving, inventory counts, and beverage cost control. Monitor product usage, waste, portioning, and proper drink preparation. Develop seasonal cocktails, drink specials, recipes, and beverage promotions. Maintain consistency in drink quality, presentation, recipes, and pricing. Train and coach employees on service standards, beverage knowledge, club policies, and operating procedures. Assist with employee scheduling and communicate staffing needs to management. Help ensure appropriate labor levels while maintaining efficient service. Address employee concerns, performance issues, and service problems professionally and communicate them to management. Maintain a professional and respectful work environment and reinforce the established chain of command. Handle member and guest concerns professionally and assist in resolving service issues. Coordinate beverage needs for dining outlets, banquets, tournaments, private events, and other club functions. Work closely with the FOH Manager, Executive Chef, Event Coordinator, and other department leaders. Maintain clean, sanitary, organized, and properly stocked bar areas. Ensure compliance with alcohol service laws, sanitation requirements, safety standards, and club policies. Assist with invoices, beverage reports, financial records, and other required documentation. Communicate with vendors and assist with beverage purchasing. Stay current on beverage trends, spirits, wine, beer, and cocktail development. Perform additional management and Food & Beverage duties as assigned. Qualifications Previous bartending and restaurant experience required. Previous shift lead, supervisory, bar management, or restaurant management strongly preferred. Strong knowledge of spirits, beer, wine, cocktails, and responsible alcohol service. Strong leadership and communication skills. Ability to professionally coach, train, and hold employees accountable. Ability to remain composed and make sound decisions in high-volume or stressful situations. Strong organization and attention to detail. Inventory and beverage cost-control experience preferred. Dependable attendance and punctuality. Ability to work independently and take initiative. Ability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, tournaments, and special events as needed. Current New Mexico alcohol server certification and food license. What We're Looking For We're looking for someone who can be trusted with both operational responsibility and leadership authority. This person should be able to run the bar independently, lead a FOH shift, solve problems as they arise, communicate effectively with management, and provide employees with clear and professional direction. The Bar / Assistant Manager is expected to lead by example and maintain a high level of professionalism, discretion, accountability, and integrity when working with employees, members, guests, and management.
Pay:
$16.00 - $18.00 per hour
