A Busser, Banquet Worker, or Cafeteria Attendant assists with food service at a restaurant, large banquet hall or cafeteria. Removes used dishes, sets tables with clean dishes and linens, replenishes foods served at food stations or buffet tables, and provides water, coffee or other beverages for patrons.
This is a kitchen staff position. Under the supervision of the Executive Chef, Sous Chef, and Cafe Leads, the Cafe Aide performs a variety of duties related to food preparation, service and general maintenance in the kitchen and dining area.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Washes dishes; cleans and scrubs pots and pans Cleans and sets up trays Empties trash, recycling, and compost daily Sweeps and mops floors in kitchen and dining area Maintains clean serving areas and sets up cafeteria for timely service Sets up tray line by arranging food Assists the chef in the preparation of meals as needed Peels, slices, cores, and dices vegetables and fruits by hand or using such mechanical equipment as automatic peelers, slicers and dicers Pours salad dressings and condiments Assists in stocking shelves, receiving and storing orders Properly packs, labels, and stores leftover food Follows state and federal regulations regarding food handling, serving, and cleanliness Serves meals throughout lunch period
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
Ability to read and follow all food safety and physical safety rules strong communication skills especially when interacting with scholars Exceptional personal hygiene Ability to lift, bend, stoop and carry heavy trays and packages of food and supplies
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
Ability to stand, stoop, reach, and bend. Mobility of arms to reach, dexterity of hands to grasp and manipulate large and small objects Ability to stand for long periods and walk long distances Ability to lift, push and/or pull objects (up to approximately 50 pounds unassisted and up to approximately 100 pounds assisted) Ability to read small print Ability to work with and in the proximity of equipment with moving mechanical parts Ability to work in a physically demanding environment Ability to work around loud noise
Experience Required:
Demonstrated skill and experience in the preparation and serving of food, especially in an elementary school setting
Special Requirements:
Must have or be willing to obtain a Serve Safe Food Handler's certification.
