Approximately 16.5 hours per week Job Summary School Caterers is a catering company that specializes in preparing and delivering meals to schools throughout the Bay Area. We are looking for a dependable and hardworking Kitchen Assistant to join our team. This position primarily involves washing dishes, cleaning and maintaining the kitchen, and helping our food preparation line for our cold items. During food production, you may assist with tasks such as cutting fruit, preparing ingredients, assembling sandwiches, portioning food, and helping the kitchen team complete school lunch orders on time. This is a good position for someone who enjoys working in a kitchen environment, stays organized, and is comfortable working as part of a team. Responsibilities Wash, sanitize, and organize dishes, utensils, cookware, and kitchen equipment. Assist with basic food preparation tasks such as chopping, slicing, and assembling ingredients following established recipes and safety guidelines. Operate kitchen equipment safely and efficiently, including dishwashers, mixers, ovens, and other culinary tools. Support the culinary team with meal assembly and portioning to ensure timely service delivery. Maintain cleanliness in all food prep areas, including counters, sinks, storage spaces, and floors. Follow food safety protocols diligently to prevent contamination and ensure proper handling of ingredients. Communicate effectively with kitchen staff to coordinate tasks and uphold safety standards in a fast-paced environment. Requirements Previous experience in a dietary department or food service setting is preferred but not required; willingness to learn is essential. Knowledge of food handling procedures, safety standards in production, and sanitation practices. Basic culinary skills such as knife handling, slicing techniques, and meal prep are advantageous. Ability to operate kitchen equipment safely and follow recipe instructions accurately. Strong communication skills to work collaboratively with kitchen staff and support team members effectively. Experience in restaurant or catering environments demonstrates familiarity with food industry standards. Physical ability to stand for extended periods, lift heavy items safely, and perform cleaning duties thoroughly. Pay:
