5 hour day) Under the direction of a school administrator and with guidance from the Nutrition Services Assistant supports Irvine International Academy's food service program by assisting with the preparation and service of nutritious breakfasts and lunches for students and staff. This role ensures that meals are prepared and served in a timely, safe, and efficient manner while maintaining compliance with health, sanitation, and nutrition standards.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Assist in the preparation, packaging, heating, and service of school meals in accordance with dietary and nutritional guidelines.
• Serve meals to students and staff in a courteous and efficient manner, ensuring proper portion control and timely service.
• Operate commercial food service equipment (e.g., ovens, slicers, food carts, warmers, can openers) safely and according to established procedures.
• Ensure compliance with all food safety, sanitation, and health regulations, including proper handwashing, temperature control, and safe food handling practices.
• Clean and sanitize kitchen equipment, utensils, carts, pans, serving areas, tables, refrigerators, and storage areas; sweep and mop floors as needed.
• Assist with inventory control, including receiving, storing, labeling, rotating, and stocking food, condiments, paper goods, and supplies.
• Estimate daily meal counts and assist with ordering food and supplies to meet service needs.
• Maintain accurate records related to food production, temperature logs, inventory, cash handling, and required reports.
• Operate an electronic point-of-sale (POS) system; verify student accounts, process transactions accurately, and follow established cash-handling procedures.
• Assist with monitoring free and reduced-price meal eligibility documentation and temporary meal account setup in accordance with policy.
• Set up and break down serving lines, tables, condiment stations, and utensil trays before and after meal service.
• Monitor food quality, appearance, and presentation to ensure meals meet nutritional standards and reflect the cultural diversity of the school community.
• Assist with catering and food service support for school events, activities, and special programs as assigned.
• Deliver food, supplies, and equipment to designated areas within the school campus as needed.
• Follow all school safety, emergency, and workplace protocols during food service operations.
• Participate in required training and professional development for school nutrition staff, including USDA-mandated annual training hours.
• Use basic office equipment and computer systems related to food service operations and reporting.
• Work collaboratively with food service staff, administrators, and school personnel to support a positive work environment.
• Provide guidance and support to student helpers and other food service staff as assigned.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
